Chapter 108 What Are You Thinking?

Inside the emergency room of my pack hospital. I paid no attention to the doctor working on my leg.

Clammy

I knew why we weren’t healing yet, but how could I tell them that someone was sneaking silver dust in my system? That would put the pack on edge while I was hunting down the traitor.

I didn’t know who it was, but I would figure it out sooner rather than later.

This was why I had been staying in the townhouse complex where Claire was. I could monitor the food

there and allow my wolf to heal while Ethan and Kian worked with me to figure out who the traitor was.

Blood had soaked through my pants, and the gash, deep enough to see bone, suggested I had lost a significant amount of blood.

I also felt a dull ache in my ribs, but it was likely from bruising.

Yet I lay there motionless, seemingly not feeling the pain, allowing the doctor to work on me.

My eyes were fixed on the closed door of the emergency room.

“Is it done? How much longer?” My agitation was palpable.

“Almost there, Alpha. Please be patient, we are dealing with residual silver poisoning, which affects your

wounds more than normal,” the doctor replied, wiping the sweat from his brow and hastening his

movements.

“And should that little tidbit of information leave this room, you will all be fed to my pets,” I growled low.

The threat was clear. I didn’t need others knowing about the breach in the pack.

I paused momentarily, then issued another command.

“Make sure no one with the surname of Sterling steps foot in my hospital. If they make it through the border, they wont’t reach the room that Claire and I will be staying in. Is that clear p>

At this, the doctor jolted, his hands momentarily freezing in place.

“All Sterlings, Alpha p>

I slowly raised my head at the doctor’s pestering question.

“How many famous Sterlings are in Edmonton p>

The doctor dared not ask further and quickly nodded, signalling his assistant to relay the order.

I linked the same order to my border lead patronman to spread the order throughout the team. I didn’t want that bastard anywhere near her!

Once the wound was barely finished, I sprang up, striding toward the emergency room door. The doctor

and nurses chase after me as I do.

As the door swung open, I spotted Claire’s slender figure sitting alone on a bench outside the door, waiting

for me. My heart raced for a second before I caught it.

When she rushed toward me without hesitation, my tall frame suddenly collapsed onto the bed behind

My swift movement startled all the doctors and nurses present, causing some of them to gasp in shock.

I shot them a sharp and silencing glare.

Everyone held their breath, carefully surrounding me and the bed, slowly wheeling me out of the

emergency room.

“Doctor, how is he? Is he going to be alright?” I hurried forward and asked.

“The injury was severe. The Alpha has a deep gash down to the bone. His ribs are nearly fractured. He has lost a lot of blood, which nearly cost him his life. Thankfully, our Alpha is strong, or else-” The doctor shook his head gravely.

My heart ached for Lucien when I heard the doctor’s report.

“Lucien, I’m so sorry. It’s all my fault. I’m so sorry.” I gazed at the pale Alpha on the bed, tears streaming down my cheeks.

I wished I hadn’t been so impulsive, that I hadn’t been so reckless.

If Lucien hadn’t caught me in time, if there had been the slightest misstep, both of our lives could have been lost in that dangerous moment.

That was too close.

Even if I had a thousand more chances, I wouldn’t dare act that way again. Why do I have to keep doing things that are so challenging and testing for Lucien?

Perhaps deep down, it was because I believed that Lucien would never let me die.

The thought startled me. When had I developed such a fundamental trust in him? I did it with the bear, and now, yet again, I risked it all to force feelings from him.

“Stop moving. I might actually break a rib.” Lucien groaned as he slowly opened his eyes.

It was only then that I realized I had been gripping Lucien’s arm tightly, shaking him with my worry, completely forgetting about his injury.

Instantly embarrassed, I released his arm, standing awkwardly to the side.

The doctor personally guided the nurses, carefully wheeling Lucien into the hospital’s VIP room.

I followed inside and was taken aback to find that this so-called VIP ward had two beds, placed closely together, adorned with vibrant rose petals arranged in a large heart shape.

Not only that, but the table was filled with fresh roses, and the air was thick with their sweet scent. The

square boxes on the nightstand hinted at something all too obvious.

This was clearly a couple’s ward designed for lovers.

But we were barely friends! I’m not sure if Lucien would agree to that label for us.

As the doctor led the nurses out, closing the door gently behind them, I rushed after them, grabbing a woman who looked like the head nurse, lowering my voice to ask quietly.

“Excuse me, ma’am, isn’t this ward a bit inappropriate for Lucien and me p>

The nurse immediately flashed a flirtatious and flattering smile.

“Not at all, Ms. Reese! We’re very professional, but we’re all adults here, and understand the situation p>

I could feel my face turn crimson, reaching down to my neck as I stammered, “No, you misunderstand!

Lucien and I aren’t p>

“Still not public, huh? I get it, but don’t worry. We respect our Alpha’s privacy and won’t disclose a word. Ms. Reese, focus on keeping our Alpha company. If you need anything, just let us know p>

The nurse clearly misunderstood my relationship with Lucien. Given the situation, I knew that the more I tried to explain, the worse it would be perceived, and only deepen the misunderstanding.

The nurse soon walked away with a smile, leaving me standing there, feeling overwhelmed as I stared at the slightly ajar door.

After a moment, I steeled myself and walked inside.

In the suite-like ward, Lucien lay quietly as if he were asleep.

Despite being asleep, I could swear I could see a faint, barely noticeable smile tug at his lips. I narrowed my eyes in suspicion and waited to see if he moved, which would indicate that he had heard my

conversation with the nurse.

After a moment, I realized Lucien was indeed asleep. I glanced around the shared room again and noticed

that it wasn’t just the roses and boxes hinting at something. Everywhere I looked were couple-themed pyjamas, slippers, towels, and toothbrushes.

Was this a hospital or a hotel?

Even if the hospital had a human touch, how many couples would be unlucky enough to end up in the same hospital?

But if that were the case, how could the couple possibly recover in peace?

The more I thought about it, the stranger it felt.

Seeing Lucian was sound asleep, I rushed to the bedside, grabbing the gift boxes with the intention of hiding them in the closet, wanting to avoid seeing them.

But just as I picked them up, Lucien suddenly opened his eyes. At the same time, the silky pyjamas fell to

the floor, silencing the room except for my frantic heartbeat.

Lucien turned his head slightly, while maintaining a half-serious expression as he asked,

“This just got interesting. Tell me, Claire, were you planning to seduce me with those p>
