“Dad!” I screamed, tears already choking me as I stumbled barefoot across the front porch. My legs moved before my brain

I froze. The wind was cold. The sky was quiet. I just… I didn’t say anything.

I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. Was I really ready? Could I walk away from Killian just like that? My heart thudded painfully, as if it knew it was being torn in two. Everything in me screamed, this isn’t fair. But the truth sat heavy in my chest – he was asking me to choose. again. And I didn’t know what the hell to do.
I looked down.
My silence must have said enough, because my dad sighed deeply. He shook his head. “ If you decide,” he said, much softer now, “you know where to find me. I’ll be there. Waiting p>
He climbed into the car.
The engine started.
And just like that, they were gone.
I stood there, completely still. Then I sank to my knees, palms to the cold floor, and let out a cry that I didn’t even recognize.
It sounded as if something inside me was dying. Maybe it was.
“Liana. ”
I turned, my breath catching.

He was standing behind me, his face tense, eyes heavy with worry. He came forward and tried to touch my arm.
“Don’t, ” I snapped, yanking away. “Don’t touch me. ”
“Liana,” he said as he knelt down and reached out for me “Baby, please, get up. You’re going to hurt yourself p>
“Don’t touch me!” I snapped, jerking away from him. I stood up with my fists clenched. My face was wet and hot with tears. Don’t you dare touch me! ”

I turned away, wiping my face. My tears wouldn’t stop, but something inside me had shifted. I couldn’t take it anymore. I was done. I was so, so done. Done with Killian and his bullshit.
And I ran.
I didn’t care that I was barefoot. I didn’t care that the road was rough or that my lungs were on fire. I just ran down the street, past the gate, until I saw it, the tail end of my father’s car.

The brake lights lit up. The car slowed. Then stopped.
I reached it, panting, my chest heaving.
The driver’s door opened. My dad stepped out, brows furrowed, his mouth parting as if he wasn’t sure if he should be angry
or hopeful.
I stared at him for a long second, my heart beating so loudly I could barely hear my own thoughts.
And then I nodded.
