The second pulled up to the house, something in me to
me twisted. My heart was thumping hard against my chest, and I hadn’t even stepped out of the damn car yet. The front door was alwide open, and I didn’t wait for anyone to invite me in. I
rushed up the stairs two at a time, my steps loud, urgent, fast.
