As soon as they walked through the front door, Silas barely looked at her.
Calliope knew something was off. She gazed at Silas with big, apologetic eyes.

“Are you mad at me p>
“Don’t be upset, okay? I’m totally fine, see p>
She slipped her arm through his and flashed him her sweetest, most hopeful smile, trying her best to cheer him up.
Calliope had a pretty good idea what was going on. Silas must’ve thought she’d gotten herself into some kind of trouble, and of course, he’d been worried sick.
After everything went down with those guys earlier, she hadn’t texted him to let him know she was safe or even gone back to look for him. No wonder he was upset.
“I’m sorry, babe. I promise I won’t do that again! Please don’t be mad, okay p>
She spoke in that soft, sweet voice of hers, practically melting against him—and Silas could never hold out for long when she was like this.
“You should’ve called me the second you realized something was wrong. And you shouldn’t have gone off with them alone,” he said, his voice low but worried. “I know you can handle yourself, but still-anything can happen, Callie. Next time, wait for me so we can deal with it together, alright? I don’t want you going solo p>
His deep blue eyes locked onto hers, desperate and intense. He couldn’t stand the thought of anything happening to her.
“I get it,” Calliope replied, still looking a little sheepish. “I’m really sorry, I swear I didn’t do it on purpose. I just wanted to find out who was behind it all p>
“How about this, next time, no matter what, I’ll have you with me. You’ll be the first person I think of if anything happens! My husband’s the best. I know you’ll have my back, right p>
She looked up at him, clinging to his arm, her eyes shining with trust.
Silas’s ears turned bright red. He couldn’t resist her when she acted this way. Just a little sweetness from her, and he’d hand her the whole world, his life included.
“Yeah, just remember you’ve got a husband, not a piece of furniture,” he grumbled, trying to sound annoyed, but his voice was thick with affection.
“I know, I know!” Calliope giggled, pressing him down onto the couch before climbing right onto his lap, planting a kiss on his lips. Her sudden boldness sent Silas’s heart racing.
“Callie, you have no idea how much I love you p>
His voice was hoarse with emotion.
He knew she could take care of herself but that didn’t erase the fear. The idea of losing her terrified him. If it came down to it, he’d give up everything just to keep her safe.
That night, Silas’s love was wild and desperate. It left Calliope’s whole body aching by morning, but she understood he’d been scared, and she wanted to reassure him.

“Okay.” She nestled her head on his arm, yawning.
“I kind of miss my grandpa,” she murmured.
“When you get back from your trip, we’ll go visit the old place where you lived with him. We’ll pay our respects,” Silas said softly. “He’s gone, but I’ll take care of you for him p>
“Mhm.” Calliope smiled faintly, pressing closer to him.
“Callie… what I did to Fleur… do you think I went too far?” Silas asked, unable to
help himself. “Are you… are you afraid of me p>
“I’ve killed people before,” Calliope replied quietly.
What he’d done wasn’t too much. It
was just giving someone a taste of their own medicine. She’d been through things most people couldn’t imagine. Life or death situations, where nothing else mattered except survival.
