Blythe’s gaze was sharp and heavy as she stared at Calliope. She couldn’t believe how crude this woman was, the way she spoke so bluntly, with not a hint of manners.
Blythe had expected Calliope to back off the moment she saw her. After all, Blythe was the one Silas was supposed to be with. Who did Calliope think she was, anyway? Rumor had it she came with no real skills or pedigree. She was hardly a match for Silas.
Besides, Mr. Myers had already promised Blythe she’d marry Silas. Where did that leave Calliope? Her marriage to Silas had always felt like an accident, a patch job for the Baker family’s scandal, not because Silas ever really loved her. Blythe watched Calliope for a long moment before speaking, her tone serious. “Ms. Jewell, if you’re willing to walk away from Silas, I promise you’ll be well taken care of. I’ve heard things are pretty rough between you and your family. If we help you, the entire Jewell estate could be yours. Everyone in your family would have to listen to you p>
