Chapter 29
(TYLER)
Later that evening, my meeting with Lucia gets cancelled. Matter of fact, the whole dinner is called off. Mr. Adonis’ health takes a turn for the worse, and I am told to stay in my room, and that someone will be sent to bring my dinner.
The situation seems dire. But I would never know because nobody keeps me in the loop. However, judging by the frantic movements and the phone calls being made, I can tell things are going south.
A few minutes later, I hear a knock at my bedroom door. I walk over and when I open the door, I meet a male omega just about my age holding a tray. He has long blonde hair tied in a ponytail and his eyes are big and blue and in them is a glimmer of something hateful. He looks like I’ve seen him before, but I just can’t recall where. I wonder if we’ve met in the real world and didn’t get along.
“Here’s your dinner.” He says, regarding me closely. His tone is gruff.
“Come on in,” I say, moving out of the way so he can step in. “You can leave the tray on the nightstand p>
He walks gracefully across the floor then sets the tray on the nightstand gently. He then turns, straightens and faces me. I can tell something is wrong with this omega considering the way he is hostile. Other staff have been friendly. I don’t know what’s going on with this one. He’s definitely different.
I shift uncomfortably under the omega’s gaze. “Is there something else p>
“You’re younger than I thought.” He says.
I’m not sure how to respond to that so I remain silent. His eyes scan me from where he is standing. He keeps his hands behind his back.
“Are your family rich?” he asks
“No,” I say, wondering why he is suddenly interrogating me. I know that he is not allowed to because Sasha made it clear that nobody has to know about our arrangement.
“Really?” My answer seems to throw him. He twirls a strand of his hair around his finger. “That’s unusual p>
“Do I know you p>
“No.” His reply is instant. “How long have you known Sasha p>
“Oh, well,” I swallow. I know certainty that I can’t give an honest answer to that question, because as I was told earlier, nobody except Sasha’s family should know about this arrangement. I mean no shade but it’s even suspicious coming from an employee. Why is he asking me all these questions? If I tell him that I’ve known Sasha for years, will he know that it’s a lie?
“I’m Dylan.” He says before I can form an answer. “Me and Sasha have known each other for quite a while.” He says, sounding territorial.
“Oh, is that right?” I ask. The way he glowers at me outright tells me that he resents the fact that I am here. I wonder why. None of the other staff seemed as agitated as he is by me being here.
“We are very close. Me and Sasha.” His gaze is stuck on me. I join the dots and suddenly everything becomes clear. His familiarity suddenly clicks. He is the guy who was sneaking beneath the bushes with Sasha the night before. The realization makes me uneasy when I suddenly understand why he is being territorial. He must be Sasha’s lover. The idea appals me in a way.
“Don’t you want to know how close we are p>
I grimace. He is pushing it so much that I’m not sure if he wants me to get annoyed or something. “Having this conversation doesn’t seem like a good idea, Dylan p>
“Why wouldn’t it be?” he asks.
“Sasha likes his affairs private person. I doubt he’ll take it lightly if he finds you gossiping about him p>
“I’m not gossiping. It is a fact.” Resentment flares in his eyes. “I’m telling you the truth about Sasha and me because you deserve to know the truth p>
My gut churns when I decide to return his glare with a sharper one. He’s trying to warn me off, which I’m not sure will work at this point. “I doubt your words will change anything. Sasha brought me here p>
“Why would he do that?” His dismissive eyes run over me. “You aren’t even close to what he wants. I can’t be live he brought you here p>
My face warm and I feel my anger begin to build. But I can’t give him the satisfaction of knowing I managed to get on my nerves. I’m too pregnant for this. Not today. “Maybe you need to talk to Sasha about this. Not me p>
“What’s the point? He won’t tell me anything anyway.” He mutters. “I’ve been nothing but loyal to him. Why would he do this to me? Doesn’t he see how insulting it is to bring you here p>
Much as he is pissing me off, it is hard to not feel sorry for him. Of course, he is suffering. He is in pain because he feels used. If he has been here for a while he says, it means they have been seeing each other for quite some time. It would baffle him why Sasha would go outsourcing other omegas when he’s been there all along. Knowing Sasha, I know Dylan’s feelings are valid. But that isn’t my business.
“Sorry. I don’t know what to tell you p>
“So, you think you’ve won?” his eyes glower with malice.
“No. I’m not saying that. All I’m saying is Sasha calls the shots. He’s the one in charge here p>
I wish he knew how little say I had in the matter. I wish he knew that I take absolutely no pleasure in being Sasha’s mate. Perhaps then he wouldn’t hate me so much. I’d very much love to let him know he can have Sasha. If anything, this whole arrangement is a nightmare to me. But he wouldn’t know that.
I’d love to tell him that I want nothing to do with Sasha. But I love my life. I don’t want to die. So, I keep my mouth shut.
Dylan looks mad yet indifferent. He rubs a shaky hand over his face. “Maybe Sasha is testing me. Perhaps he needs me to show that I’ll do just about anything to be with him. I don’t know what else he wants me to do to show him he has my undying loyalty p>
I don’t like the sound of that He seems so desperate I almost pity him.
“D…Dylan, I don’t think it’s a test p>
“No, it’s not.” He mocks. “Of course, I knew you’d say that.” He snarls and then turns to grab a knife from the tray. “I want to know what makes you think you’re so special. You waltz in here and act like you own Sasha. Like you’re better than me. What makes you think you deserve him p>
“No, Dy…I don’t think I’m s…special p>
“Oh please, you honestly expect me to believe you didn’t jump at the chance to be with Sasha p>
“No, it’s not like that p>
Dylan’s eyes flash with tremendous rage. “Then what is it like? Enlighten me p>
Blood drains from my face when he takes a step towards me. I hold out my hand in defence. “I haven’t done anything to you Dylan. Come on.” I take an instinctive step backwards. “Before you jump to conclusions, I think it would be best if you talked to Sasha first and told him how you feel p>
“When does he ever listen? You know he won’t listen to me. Maybe you don’t know, but with Triple Triads, actions speak louder than words.” He narrows his eyes watching me as I take another step towards the door. “Running? Oh honey, you won’t make it out in time p>
