Back at the banquet, Maia lifted her gaze to the sky, stunned by the spectacle above her.
The night felt almost enchanted. Romance and wonder seemed to sweep through her, reaching a part of her heart that she thought prison had closed off for good.
Even the lavish gifts Claudius had showered her with had never made her feel this moved. Nothing compared to what she was seeing now.
She believed that anyone witnessing such a breathtaking display would find it hard not to be moved, especially knowing that it was arranged just for her.
For as long as Maia had lived with the Morgan family, her birthdays had always passed by without anything special.
Sometimes, Richard and Sandra would even forget her birthday. They would always claim they were too busy with work or other important things.
While she was in prison, Zoey had been the only one to ever acknowledge her birthday.
As that memory surfaced, Maia’s brows knitted together. A fleeting thought crossed her mind: Could Mr. M actually be Zoey using another name?

These comments made both Vince and Claudius frown simultaneously. Both were looking at Maia, speculating about her relationship with Mr. M. She wanted to ask if he would reveal who Mr. M truly was.

With a simple gesture, he signaled. The men in suits behind him shifted into two neat lines.
Four more men appeared, moving forward with measured steps. Between them, they carried an ornate wooden chest.
They made their way down the center, drawing every eye in the room. By now, the guests realized that this must be Mr. M’s third and final birthday present — the highlight of the evening. The mysterious chest captured everyone’s attention.
Claudius, meanwhile, had gone ghostly pale.
