Skyler strode several paces ahead, only to notice that Ike hadn’t caught up. He turned back, puzzled. “Ike, what are you daydreaming about back there p>
“The movie’s about to start, you know p>
Ike swallowed, his voice a little shaky. “I—I just saw Uncle Gordon p>
“My uncle?” Skyler raised an eyebrow, unconvinced.
Everyone knew Uncle Gordon would never set foot in a movie theater.
And besides-
Movie theaters were prime date spots.
What would a lifelong bachelor like Gordon be doing here, catching a movie alone?
“Yeah,” Ike nodded, all excitement. “But that’s not all-I saw that girl he was having barbecue with last time too! Skyler, you’re about to get an aunt p>
“No way,” Skyler shot back, skepticism written all over his face. “So where’s my uncle now, then p>
“Right over there p>
Skyler followed Ike’s gaze, searching the crowd.
But Gordon was nowhere in sight.
Skyler let out an exasperated sigh. “Ike, honestly! You’re still pulling this nonsense? I remember last summer you tried to convince me you saw my uncle having dinner with some girl. Now it’s a movie date p>
Knowing Gordon, there was no way he’d do something like that.
It was pure fantasy.
“I mean it! I swear, I really saw him,” Ike insisted, holding up three fingers as if making a solemn oath.
Skyler couldn’t help but laugh. “Then how come you’re always the one who opens’ to spot him? And on when I’m around? Doesn’t that seem a little too convenient p>
They were in the same theater-if Ike had seen Gordon, Skyler should have too.
But he hadn’t.
Which could only mean Ike was making it up.
“I’m telling the truth, you have to believe me!” The frustration of never being believed washed over Ike again. “If I’m lying, I’ll eat my shoes p>
Skyler clapped him on the shoulder. “If oaths worked that way, you’d have four paws and a leash by now. There’s no way I’m falling for that again p>
If he actually believed Ike, he’d be the fool.
Ike just stared, speechless.
Why was he always the one nobody trusted?
“Just trust me this once, Skyler. Please? Just this once?” Ike held up a single pleading finger.
“Not a chance,” Skyler shook his head. “My uncle’s not the type to fall in love at the drop of a hat. If you’re going to make something up, at least try a new story This one’s getting old p>
Seeing Skyler’s stubborn disbelief, Ike looked like he might drop to his knees and beg.
Why was he always the unlucky one?
Skyler couldn’t be bothered to argue anymore. “Come on, stop standing around.

With that, he turned and headed off.
Ike could only sigh and follow after him, resigned.
Elsewhere, Tammie received an invitation to the Arts Gala from his comic editor.
When he saw the WhatsApp notification, he declined immediately.
He never went to those kinds of in-person events.

Ann had been in a rough mood lately-maybe if he brought her to meet C, it would cheer her up.

Reading the reply, Tammie broke out in a grin and messaged Ann right away.
