Dorothea showed up early with Elise to finalize the equity transfer. She glanced over the agreement, a satisfied smile tugging at her lips.
“Thanks,” she said.
Just like that, Dorothea became the sole major shareholder of The Gresham.
When Walton came back from his business trip and heard Elise was in the building, he walked right in.

With barely any emotion, Elise introduced her. “Walton, don’t you remember? This is my daughter, Dorothea p>
Dorothea wasn’t close to Elise, so she’d always been distant from the rest of the Carter family. She’d only met this uncle once, back when she was seven.
Walton looked surprised for a second. “Dorothea, wow, it’s been ages. Did you miss me p>
Dorothea frowned just a little. She hadn’t expected Walton to get so greasy with age.
“Walton, Mom’s put the shares in my name. I’ll be coming in to work tomorrow. I hope you’ll show me the ropes p>
Walton’s face dropped. “What p>
“Elise, why didn’t you tell me about this?” he asked, turning to his sister.
Elise just shrugged. “The shares are Dorothea’s now, but you’re still running the company. Walton, this doesn’t really change anything for you p>
Like he could believe that.
Walton still held on to a measly two percent. He’d always figured Dorothea would hand over her shares to him after a few years. Otherwise, what was the point of pouring so much effort into this hotel? His son and daughter-in-law both worked here too. Now, with Dorothea stepping in, would there be any place left for his family?
Dorothea caught the way his expression shifted.
She smiled, eyes bright, and said, “No need to worry. I don’t know a thing about running a company. You’ll still be in charge p>
She was new here. There was no point starting a war with Walton right away. Better to take her time.
Walton seemed to relax a bit.
“Alright. Still, this all feels way too sudden,” he muttered.
Elise left once everything was signed.
Since Dorothea was Elise’s
daughter, she naturally had the right to inherit. There weren’t any tax issues, and the paperwork would take about fifteen business days to process. After that, Dorothea would officially be the company’s legal representative.
Walton showed her around, stopping at one of the offices.
“How’s this one?” he asked.
He’d brought her straight to the HR department, clearly hoping to stick her with a cushy, useless title like HR Director.

The mentor Latham had recommended told her HR was a vital department. If she took the position, she’d have the final say in hiring and appointments.
The old HR director had just left, and Nash, the deputy, was sure he’d be promoted. Instead, in walked this young woman, and Nash’s face fell.
Walton patted Nash’s shoulder and spoke quietly “She’s my sister’s daughter Nothing I can do. She’s just here for a little experience. Try to bear with it p>
Nash knew full well the company really belonged to Elise.
