Bonita pressed her lips together. “I just can’t stand her. Is it really such a big deal p>
“You might think it’s nothing, but Latham practically worships her. I warned you last time, but you ignored me. I talked to Dad about this. For now, you’re going home to take a break p>
If they didn’t rein Bonita in now, who knew what kind of trouble she’d stir up next?
“You’re really sending me away, just like that p>
She had poured half her life into the George Group. Now, because of some outsider, because of Dorothea’s husband, she was supposed to step aside? The thought made her sick.
“Whether you accept it or not isn’t the point. When we have the power to squash anyone who stands in our way, you can do whatever you want. Until then, if you make trouble, no one will back you up p>
Manley’s decision was final, with no room for argument.
Bonita felt suffocated. What stung even more was Albert cancelling their engagement party, just like that.
A message from Manley popped up on her phone. “Was it worth it p>
She stared at the screen, bitterness rising inside her.
Worth it or not, she’d already done it.
She didn’t fight it any further. Just packed up a few personal things and walked out of the office.
Latham didn’t think what he’d done was anything out of line.
That day, though, someone unexpected showed up at his office.
“Patrick, what brings you here today p>
Patrick was more than just a lawyer. He was also the James family heir, so Latham put on a polite smile for him.
Patrick smiled back. “I’m here to ask for a favor p>
“Oh?” Latham raised an eyebrow, as if he already knew what this was about. “I’m not exactly generous with favors p>
“I know. Why don’t you just name your terms p>
Latham smiled, but it didn’t reach his
eyes. His tone was cool. “No terms will work Ratrick, I know exactly who you’re here for. The fact that havent exposed what happened between you and Wade already counts as me doing you a favor, don’t you think p>
Patrick’s face went stiff. The air in the room turned icy.
“I get it. Sorry to bother you. I’ll see myself out p>
Latham’s lips curled, but there was nothing warm in it. “Alright, take care p>
After leaving Latham’s office, Patrick let out a heavy breath.
He called his ex-fiancée. “I’m sorry. I can’t help you p>
“Latham is fiercely protective. You really shouldn’t have messed with his wife p>
If he was honest, he couldn’t blame Latham. He probably wouldn’t do anyone a favor either if the roles were reversed.
“Bonita, I know my situation made
you feel insecure and on edge. But I really hope you can go back to being
the person you were
before confident hold, and always so polite p>
Bonita felt her nose sting.
Because of Patrick, people had laughed at her behind her back, whispered things
she was never meant to hear.
She’d been holding on to all that resentment, desperate for a comeback.
Did she even like Albert all that much? Not really.
But she hated being ignored by him, over and over again.
Dorothea just happened to show up at the worst possible time. Bonita envied her.
She tried to hide it, but the jealousy was there, simmering.
She was jealous that Dorothea had
the attention of two men, while Patrick’s words when he called off the engagement think like
instuck with her, haunting her
curse.
“Patrick, you are the last person who gets to say that to me p>
She hung up, her hand shaking.
Patrick sighed. He typed out a long message and sent it.
I’m sorry. I honestly don’t know what else to say to make you feel better. There’s an agency overseas looking for a director. If you’re interested, I can recommend you.
