Chapter 331
He forced himself to keep walking, even though every step felt heavy. Tonight’s dinner had been a trap, plain and simple. He needed to get out before anything else happened, before someone could use it against him later. Mamie watched from a distance, careful not to get too close as she followed him. When he was almost at the door, he suddenly staggered to the side. She hurried over and caught his arm.
“Do you want me to help you to your car p>
Scott didn’t bother pretending anymore. “Thanks p>
This was only the second time they’d seen each other since everything changed. Ever since Mamie ended things, Scott couldn’t stop thinking about the past. Were those last two “accidental” encounters really just chance, or had she planned them the whole time? He pushed those thoughts aside and waited for Mamie to answer. “I’m not getting a divorce p>
Scott lifted his eyebrows. “So you’re asking a divorce lawyer for advice on someone else’s behalf p>
Mamie realized he must have seen the lawyer’s business card on her vanity. She pressed her lips together, looking a little helpless. “Tammie isn’t just a divorce lawyer. She handles criminal cases too p>
Scott went quiet. He zeroed in on the important part. “Criminal cases p>
“I’m sorry. Maybe you misunderstood me before, but I had my reasons for everything p>
Scott’s eyes turned cold. He took a step forward, crowding her space. Mamie felt the pressure and backed up until her back hit the wall. Scott braced his hand beside her, making escape impossible.
“Oh really? Then tell me, what kind of misunderstanding could there possibly be between us p>
Mamie just shrugged and played it off. “I forgot. You know I lost my memory, right? I haven’t remembered everything about the misunderstandings yet p>
Scott let out a cold laugh. “You don’t remember, but I sure do. You were the one who chased after me first. You broke up with me. And you secretly had my child, then left him at an orphanage. I honestly don’t know what kind of misunderstanding could make you so heartless. So, Mamie, you owe this to Garth. If you think you can just leave me, it’s not happening p>
With that, Scott turned and walked back to his room.
Mamie sank into a chair, completely lost. Of course he hated her. She could see it in his eyes. He’d married her just for revenge. The two of
them had gone from being in love, to enemies, to being forced into
marriage it made her into.ne
feel sick
inside. She’d actually thought about bringing up Vince, but now she was glad she hadn’t. There was no point.
Latham and Dorothea headed back to the Stephens Estate and told Ladd their plans
to film a reality show. Ladd’s first reaction was to shut it down.
“What’s going on with you? Are we that short on cash? You’re making your wife work p>
Dorothea jumped in before Latham could answer. “Dad, I’m just bored at home want to do this and once
the show’s done, I’ll go straight back
to work p>
Ladd sighed. “All right, fine. But if you’re not having a good time, you tell Latham
and stop filming right away p>
Latham grinned. “Don’t worry, Dad. I’ll be on the show too p>
Ladd gave him a look, like he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. There was definitely a note of pride in Latham’s voice.
After dinner, Latham pulled Scott aside for a chat.
“Scott, did you and Mamie have a fight p>
Scott hadn’t said a word at dinner, though that wasn’t unusual for him. But Mamie
hadn’t spoken either, and that was a red flag.
“We didn’t fight p>
Latham gave him a knowing look,
trying to act like the wise older brother. “Scott, you’re not going to win her over by acting like that.. You’d better watch out, or someone else might come along and stea Mamie away p>
Would someone really take her away? Scott scoffed in his head. “Worry about your own problems, not mine p>
Latham just shook his head. Scott was clearly getting touchy for no reason.
