Spring approached, blinking in slight confusion when she saw someone sitting across from Natalie; after all, Natalie usually only hung out with Jill and the others, and it was rare to see anyone else with her.
“Is this your new classmate?” Spring asked curiously.
Natalie tilted her head, just as puzzled. “You don’t recognize Lillian? She was at that bar that night p>
Spring turned to look at Lillian, and for a moment, she was stunned. She had never seen anyone so breathtakingly beautiful up close. There was something familiar about her features; then it clicked. “You’re the girl with the glasses p>
Back then, Lillian had been wearing large, thick frames, and the lighting in the bar had been dim, making it impossible to get a clear look. It wasn’t surprising that Spring hadn’t recognized her until now.
Lillian’s smile was calm and faint. “So, Spring goes to our school too. Funny I’ve never seen you around before p>
Natalie explained, “She transferred here last year. That’s why you never ran into her. Oh, and her mom works at my house now p>
“Yes,” Spring added sweetly, “thanks to Mr. Carson, I was able to transfer to Riverdale High in my sophomore year. I was so surprised when I first met Natalie at their house; I never imagined we’d be so connected.” She slid into the seat beside Natalie with a quiet grace.
A glint flickered through Lillian’s dark eyes as she replied smoothly, “Connected, indeed. Though, I’m curious where Miss Liao went to school before this p>
This girl, Spring-Lillian remembered that calculating look in her eyes the night of the bar incident. There was no ignoring that. And now, here she was again, conveniently rescued by Natalie, her mother now working in Natalie’s home. The coincidence was just a little too neat.

“No need to thank me,” Lillian said casually. “It was Natalie and Xinyue who saved you.” Clearly, she didn’t believe a word of Spring’s explanation.

Lillian glanced at her, watching the girl’s bashful demeanor; her expression thoughtful, unreadable.
The next month passed in a blur. With Skyreach Group preparing to expand into Kingston, Lillian barely had a moment to herself.
Every day, outside of school hours, she poured herself into studying medicine and handling company affairs.

After analyzing the compound Geo had given her, Lillian shared everything she’d discovered about Karina with him. Geo had been stunned and immediately dispatched people to investigate.

Lillian, however, paid little attention. She had far too much on her plate to be concerned.

His phone had been switched off the entire time. Each time she dialed and heard the automated voice calmly informing her that the phone was turned off, a quiet, inexplicable sense of loss settled in her chest.
