Watching Trista remain so unbothered–so completely detached–left Cassian feeling like his world was tilting.
His first instinct was to explain himself.
Trista tried to pull away, but he held on with that signature Alpha grip, refusing to let go.
He turned to Madison, his voice dropping to sub–zero temperatures. “Madison, please leave. If Samantha were actually in a life–threatening emergency, she’d be calling the clinic, not sending you to break into my private apartment p>
Madison was floored. She didn’t expect him to be this cold. “Cassian, look,” she blurted out. “I know your mate is standing right there and you don’t want a scene, but your relationship with Samantha isn’t exactly a state secret p>
Cassian’s eyes flashed with a dangerous, predatory glint, but Madison was too far gone to notice.
“Samantha hasn’t been officially cleared by the Ironthorn Elders yet, sure,” Madison continued, “but she gave you a son! That’s your bloodline! Her mental state is cratering right now–she needs you p>
Cassian’s face went dark as a thundercloud. “Leave. Now. Before I put your name on the Ironthorn permanent ban list p>

Isaiah strolled over, holding an iced Americano, and promptly tossed the entire cup at her. Madison shrieked, jumping back as the coffee drenched her designer skirt.
As Madison scrambled out of the apartment in a total panic, Trista turned back to Cassian, still acting like she was discussing the weather. “I know you’re worried about her. Just go. Better to handle it now than take it out on me later when you’re full of regret p>

As she spoke, Samantha’s nails dug deep into her palms.
At 3:00 PM, in a high–end, private cafe downtown, Samantha had called for a meeting with Alaina.
