Before heading out, Trista pulled Paisley aside. “Paisley, go ahead and get the guest room ready for me. I’ll be sleeping in there from now on p>
Lately, Trista had been living like a high–speed gear, pouring every ounce of her sanity into the needles and potions at the healing center.
Even without that cold, legal contract hanging over her head, she knew exactly how Cassian operated.
If a possessive Alpha like him got pushed too far, the fallout of his “rank suppression” wasn’t something a vulnerable Luna like her could handle.
Moving to a separate bedroom was the final line in the sand.
8:00 AM, at the parking lot, Trista had barely killed the engine when that sickeningly sweet scent of Samantha’s pheromones drifted over.
Samantha was standing there in high heels, a smug, “I won” look plastered on her face.
“Luna Trista, got a minute p>
Trista stopped, her eyes as cold as a winter frost.
“I hope you don’t mind about last night,” Samantha said, twirling a lock of hair. Her tone was airy and fake. “Alaina was just dying to see her grandson, so Cassian spent the evening with us. We had a family dinner. Honestly, the vibes were just… perfect p>
Trista let out a dry laugh. She scanned Samantha’s face like she was inspecting a bunch of low- grade, rotting herbs. “And tell me, when exactly does Alaina plan on officially recognizing this ‘grandson‘ and bringing a rogue with a love child back into the Ironthorns p>
The smile on Samantha’s face died instantly.
She gripped her designer bag so hard her knuckles turned white. It took her a few seconds to stitch her “elegant” mask back together. “Trista, I get that you’re jealous. If I hadn’t talked him into going home to check on you, he would’ve spent the night in my bed. You really have nothing to brag about p>
Trista raised an eyebrow. She reached into her bag, pulled out a thick stack of cash, and flicked it right at Samantha.

In the distance, a colleague waved Trista over.
Trista pulled out her comm–stone, unmuted it, and didn’t spare Samantha another glance.
“Instead of wasting your breath trying to pick a fight with me, go home and figure out how to keep your Alpha happy p>
Trista leaned in, her voice a lethal whisper. “He tried to get handsy with me last night and my wolf ended up clawing his face open. He’s probably back home right now, looking for some ‘gentle‘ comfort p>
With that, she turned and walked toward the lobby.
Samantha stood frozen, biting her lip so hard she drew blood.
“She’s supposed to sever the mating with him, and yet she’s still mating with him?! The whole ‘cooperation‘ thing was a lie p>
Samantha stared at Trista’s back, a flash of feral, hateful red flickering in her eyes.
“This bitch has been playing me from day one p>
“Bitch!” Samantha hissed under her breath.
Unfortunately for her, a burly, middle–aged she–wolf wolf was walking past right at that
moment.
The woman’s sense of smell was top–tier, and she caught the absolute vitriol in Samantha’s voice.
The woman stopped, looked around the empty corner to make sure no one was watching, and shoved a finger nearly up Samantha’s nose. Her voice sounded like sandpaper on concrete. “Who the hell are you barking at, you stinking rogue p>
Samantha felt the heavy, crushing pressure of a mature she–wolf wolf. She looked at the woman’s cheap clothes and tried to play the “high–society” card. “How incredibly unrefined. Was I talking to you p>

Samantha let out a mock snort and tried to walk away.

“Oh, you’re running?” The woman let out a gutteral roar. She lunged forward, her fingers like hooks, and snatched a handful of Samantha’s perfectly curled hair.
Two massive haymakers landed right on Samantha’s checks. “You think you can talk trash and just walk away? Moon Goddess didn’t raise us that way p>
Samantha screamed, her eyes watering from the stinging pain. “You old hag! Let go of me! When my man gets here, I’ll make sure you pay in blood p>
“Old hag?!” The woman’s rage went nuclear. She delivered two more crisp slaps. “I’m gonna teach you how to keep your tail tucked p>
A crowd of healers and patients began to gather, lured by the noise.
Samantha actually had a bit of a following on social media, and the fear of being recognized in this state finally hit her. She covered her swollen face and scrambled into her car, scurrying away as people whispered and pointed.
It felt like she was cursed.
She’d muttered one little insult and ended up getting slapped four times by some low–life stranger.
Even her expensive hair extensions were hanging crooked, revealing her thinning natural hair underneath.
The only silver lining was that she’d managed to protect her nose–she’d just had work done on it, and if that filler had shifted, she wouldn’t have been able to show her face for a month.
