Trista watched in silence as Madison was dragged away. She felt nothing.
She knew that for Bluestar to hold its own in a city as cutthroat as L.A., Ferris had to be a shark.

He caught himself mid–sentence and pivoted. “I mean, I hope you and Dr. Holmes won’t hold this against us. ”
Trista glanced at Cassian.
She knew Bluestar wouldn’t have gone nuclear on Madison just for a few insults.
They weren’t afraid of her; they were terrified of the Ironthorn war machine backing Cassian.
After picking up her new phone–a courtesy replacement from Bluestar–Trista traded a few polite words, declined an escort, and walked toward the boundary.
Cassian said his goodbyes and physically blocked Ferris from following her out.
Outside the gates, the sky had finally opened up.
Cassian stepped into the rain, holding an umbrella over Trista’s head to block her path. “The weather’s too bad to catch a cab. Let me drive you p>

Just as Trista was about to push him off, a flashy sports car let out a feral roar and screeched to a halt in front of them.
Isaiah hopped out, and Cassian’s face went as dark as midnight in L.A.
Trista took the opening, sidestepping Cassian to tuck herself under Isaiah’s umbrella.
Isaiah held the umbrella with one hand and naturally slung his other arm around Tista’s shoulder,
Cassian moved on instinct, swatting Isaiah’s hand away.
Isaiah didn’t back down; he doubled down, pulling Trista closer and tightening his grip.

Cassian’s aura turned sub–zero. He slapped Isaiah’s hand away again, harder this time.
Trista was done watching these two posturing. She told Isaiah to just get in the car and drive.
Isaiah, enjoying the win, hooked his arm through Trista’s and leaned his head onto her shoulder, flashing Cassian a massive, taunting grin.
Cassian’s eyes flared with a violent red light. He glared at Isaiah. “You think I won’t rip your head off right here? ”
Isaiah didn’t flinch. He shoved the umbrella into Trista’s hands. “Hold this for a second, babe p>
The next second, Isaiah grabbed Trista around the waist, pulling her flush against him. He looked Cassian dead in the eye. “I’m touching her. I’m holding her. What are you gonna do about it p>
Cassian stared at Isaiah’s hand on Trista’s waist, his expression becoming predatory.
To turn the heat up, Isaiah leaned in and started whispering “babe” and “honey” into Trista’s ear over and
over.
Trista saw Cassian drop his umbrella. He looked like a wild animal about to snap.
Her heart jumped. She shoved Isaiah. “Are you crazy? Get out of here, he’s actually losing it p>
Before she could even blink, the weight on her waist vanished.
With a sickening thud, Cassian slammed Isaiah into the backseat of the Rolls–Royce Cullinan. He lunged in right after him and locked the doors.
Trista stood in the rain, holding the umbrella, watching the luxury SUV rock violently on its suspension. The force of the struggle inside made her blood run cold.

She dropped the umbrella and started pounding on the bulletproof glass.
Ever since Samantha was locked up, Cassian had been a ticking time bomb.

Trista shielded Isaiah, glaring at Cassian. “He didn’t even do anything! What gives you the right to jump him like that p>
Cassian stared at her, his voice a ragged rasp. “He hit me back. It was a mutual fight p>
Isaiah practically jumped three feet in the air. “What, you expected me to just lay there and take it? I’m not one of your corporate lapdogs p>
Afraid the two of them were going to start tearing into each other in the middle of the street again, Trista grabbed Isaiah and dragged him away.
