Fred saw his chance. “Look, Wilmot, Cassian’s in no shape to be out of bed. He’s been pushed way too hard today and needs to get back to the healing center. You guys keep talking; I’ll drive him p>
He reached out to help, but Rowena stood up with a perfectly poised smile. “Actually, I need to swing by the clinic to grab some meds for my grandmother. I can give him a lift. It’s on my way p>
Cassian stared her down, his dark eyes full of suspicion. “You were just at the healing center to see me, Rowena. You didn’t think to get the medicine then? ”
She didn’t miss a beat. “That was the plan, but then I heard you’d gone missing while injured. My parents and I were so worried that it completely slipped my mind p>
Rowena’s mother frowned, her voice turning icy. “Alpha Cassian, are you interrogating my daughter p>
“Just a question,” Cassian muttered, looking away.
The air in the room was thick enough to choke on.
Fred tried to play peacemaker. “Come on, Rowena, let me do the heavy lifting. I’ve got the muscle to handle a guy who can barely walk p>
“Fred, stay put,” Howard’s deep voice boomed, leaving no room for argument. “Let Rowena take him p>
When Howard gave an order, it was final. Fred had no choice but to let go.
Rowena walked over to Cassian, but he stood there like a block of ice, refusing to move.
He scanned every face in the room before locking eyes with Rowena. His voice was like granite. “Rowena, this union is my grandfather and father’s fantasy. I have zero intention of ever mating with you p>
The room went dead silent for a heartbeat before exploding. Both the Simmons elders and the Porters looked like they’d been slapped.
Rowena’s father slammed his hand on the table, his dominant pheromones flooding the space. “We already had a deal! You’re saying this now? Are you trying to make the Tundras look like a joke in this city?
Mrs. Porter added coldly, “Ironthorn might be top–tier, but let’s be real–you made a fool of yourself over a rogue she–wolf, and now you’re a divorcee. My daughter is a professional with a spotless reputation. We didn’t judge you for being a ‘second chance‘ mate, and now you’re the one being picky p>
Wilmot and Alaina were busy apologizing, looking like they wanted to vanish into the floorboards.
Howard sat at the head of the room, looking like a volcano seconds away from an eruption.
Rowena, however, was the calmest person there. She signaled her parents to settle down. “ Mom, Dad, let’s respect Alpha Cassian’s feelings. There’s no need to make this a scene.
Seeing Cassian already walking toward the door without a word, she followed him out.

Fred and Wynn tried to go after them, but one sharp look from Howard pinned them to their seats.
Wilmot watched Rowena leave, letting out an impressed sigh. “Now that is an Alpha’s daughter. She knows how to handle herself p>
A few minutes later, Cassian and Rowena were in the car.
As soon as the door shut, Rowena spoke. “Sorry, I left my bag in the house. Give me a minute p>
She hopped out and headed back inside. When she pushed the door open, she caught her parents in the middle of a total rant.
They were livid, complaining that Cassian almost dying for an ex was a public insult to their pack, and demanding to know how Ironthorn was going to fix it.
Rowena stepped in, her tone smooth and composed. “Dad, Mom, relax. If anything, this just proves he’s a man who values loyalty p>
The tension in the room broke instantly. Wilmot and Howard immediately started showering Rowena with praise, looking like they’d just struck gold.
Rowena looked at Howard. “Please, since Cassian has his own ideas right now, stop pressuring him. Let him do what he wants p>
Howard’s clouded eyes studied her. “Are you saying you want to back out of the alliance p>
Rowena smiled, her answer perfectly calculated. “I’ve always admired Cassian’s business instincts. If this power–pairing works, it’s a win–win. But forcing it will only backfire. I want a stable partnership, not a blood feud p>
She paused, her tone turning as professional as an executive. “Alpha Howard, I suggest you dial back the tension at home. Stop blocking him. If he feels cornered, he’ll just rebel, and that helps no one p>
As Howard and Wilmot nodded along, Rowena turned to Wilmot. “Alpha Wilmot, you just worry about being a father to him. Leave the rest to me p>
She grabbed her bag and gave an elegant goodbye.
Behind her, Howard and Wilmot couldn’t stop talking about how she was the perfect fit for the Luna position.
Alaina sat quietly, staying out of it.
Rowena was sharper and more rational than she’d expected–a natural–born politician.
