Trista’s brow snapped into a frown. She shoved Cassian out of her line of sight, her voice cutting through the air like a knife. “Cassian, drop the ‘tough guy‘ act before you bite someone. We are done p>
Cassian grabbed her wrist, his aggressive flare instantly deflating into a desperate plea. “I need to talk to you. Get in my car p>
“Let go,” Trista snapped, wrenching her arm free.
Cassian tried to step closer, but Sayer suddenly lunged between them like a protective little pup, arms spread wide to shield Trista. “Stop bullying my godmom p>
With a child in the way, Cassian had to choke back his Alpha aura. His face was a mask of pure frustration.
Elias spoke up at just the right moment. “Alpha Cassian, dial back the imagination. Sayer got rowdy and spilled soda on her shoes. Trista strained her lower back doing physical therapy for a patient and can’t bend over easily. I was just helping out p>
In Elias’s mind, these two weren’t completely finished with each other yet, and he had no interest in getting dragged into their toxic mess.
“You hurt your back?” Cassian’s expression shifted to instant worry. He instinctively reached out to check her vitals, but Trista stepped back, making him miss.
Trista shot Elias a cold look before turning her gaze to Cassian. “Mr. Manwaring, you don’t owe him an explanation. In Cassian’s world, playing the devoted servant to a woman is his specialty–after all, he spent plenty of time kneeling at Samantha’s feet p>
Cassian’s hand hung awkwardly in mid–air before he let it drop, defeated.
Trista stepped forward, leaning in to whisper in his ear. Every word felt like a shard of ice. “Cassian, this is my final warning: we are nothing. In the future, even if you catch another wolf marking me, you’re going to act like a grown–up and walk away. Don’t ruin my night p>
Without a backward glance, she pulled open the car door and climbed into the passenger seat
Cassian stood frozen, his eyes bloodshot as he watched the Maybach disappear into traffic.

A few yards away, Fred stood with Wynn’s designer bag slung over his shoulder. The two of them were leaning against their car, watching the train wreck like confused bystanders.

Before he could answer, she kept going. “I remember being at the mall with Trista and seeing Cassian kneeling there, trying shoes on Samantha. I remember it perfectly, and I know Trista does too. Where does he get the nerve to interrogate Elias? Does he have a death wish or is he just stupid p>
“I think his brain is frozen solid,” Fred said, patting the steering wheel. He nudged Wynn with his elbow. “Go on. Drag him into the car p>
Wynn didn’t budge, looking like she was glued to the seat. “You do it p>
Fred rolled his eyes. “He’s your brother, not mine p>
“You’re my real brother,” Wynn said, looking at him dead seriously. “He’s just some stranger who happens to look like us. ”
Fred stared at her for a second before sighing like a punctured tire. He pushed the door open and hopped out. “Fine. I’ll go fetch him p>
2:00 PM, Brooke, an omega from the Ironthorns, knocked on Trista’s office door.
“Luna Trista…” He caught the cold look in Trista’s eyes and felt a shiver down his spine. He quickly corrected himself. “Trista. Alpha Howard wants to see you p>
Ten minutes later, Trista was sitting in a cafe near the healing center.
Howard was already there. As they sat across from each other, they didn’t even bother with the fake politeness.
Howard struck first, his voice low and arrogant. “If you had been mature enough to know your place back then, you and Cassian wouldn’t be in this mess p>
Trista laughed internally.
Wynn was right–Howard was delusional. In his eyes, his grandson could do no wrong; it was all the fault of his “uncooperative mate.
“Howard, you didn’t come all the way here just to tell me I don’t know my place. What do you want? Trista’s tone was blunt, hitting him right back.
Howard let out a contemptuous huff “Cassian is out with Ms. Porter. As long as you promise to stay away and don’t screw up their union, I’ll leave Silverlight alone”
Trista actually smiled at the absurdity. “Where do you get the confidence to think I’m the one chasing your grandson p>
