The door slammed shut in response.
With the door now closed, Zachary couldn’t contain the smile spreading across his face.
Inside the house, Serenity picked up the stack of bills from her plate while muttering, “You must think you’re something special just because you’re rich? You gave me this money; I didn’t ask for it. You can only buy silence for so long. Let’s see how long you can keep up this charade p>
She counted the money, which totaled a little over two thousand dollars.
“Tch. Over two thousand bucks. I dare you to throw me a sack of cash p>
Serenity scolded Zachary.
Zachary’s hush money felt somewhat insulting.
Still, she was happy to accept it if he enjoyed paying her for her silence. After putting the money in her pocket, Serenity went into the kitchen to wash the dishes and tidy up.
She placed some groceries on the countertop, packing a few items separately to take to the shop for lunch before heading to work.
Just as she left the house, Serenity received a call from her sister.
“Liberty,” she answered quickly, always prioritizing her sister’s calls in case something serious had occurred.
“Seren, are you at work yet?” Liberty asked.
“I just left the house and am walking down the stairs. What’s going on?” Serenity replied.
“I fed Sonny. Can you come over and take him to your shop? I’m going to start looking for a job today.” The bruises on Liberty’s face had faded. After talking with Serenity, she had decided to seek employment and adopt a healthier diet.
“Okay, I’ll be right over. Please pack Sonny’s bag with toys, formula, and a few extra pairs of pants p>
At just two years old, Sonny could barely speak and was not yet potty trained, so extra pants were necessary.
“I have everything ready,” Liberty assured her.
“It won’t take me long,” Serenity replied.
Since she was bringing her nephew with her, Serenity decided to drive her car to work. She needed to install a child car seat in the back for Sonny’s safety.
Turning back to her house, she grabbed the car keys. After some consideration, she opened the fridge and took out some vegetables, planning to prepare soft-cooked veggies for Sonny at the shop. He could have his formula before his nap, as he needed his bottle to settle down; otherwise, he would fuss and stay awake.
He wasn’t ready to wean off the bottle yet.
It didn’t take long for Serenity to arrive in her sister’s neighborhood.
