Liberty and Hank were on the verge of divorce, and custody had not yet been determined. The Browns took Sonny without Liberty’s consent, so if she called the police, they would likely serve as mediators. If no one compromised, they would have to wait for the court to resolve the matter alongside the divorce proceedings.
Although the Browns were Sonny’s relatives, Liberty and Serenity had cared for him since birth. Sonny did not have a close relationship with the Browns. If he were taken to an unfamiliar place, he would likely cry and become distressed. Who knew how the Browns would treat him?

“Nana, my sister took Sonny to the market for groceries, but her in-laws took him away and handed him over to Hank’s brother-in-law. I suspect they went back to their hometown. I know where they live p>
Serenity was fearful that if she went there alone, she would be outnumbered and might not be able to get Sonny back. She could even face a loss.
