Since the winter holidays began, Jasmine had been staying at home. Her daily routine revolved around eating, sleeping, and reading romance novels on her phone.
Occasionally, her brother would receive calls from Josh inviting him out to dinner, and Jasmine would invite herself along, just in case her brother decided to share secrets about her behind her back.
When Jasmine received a message from Serenity saying she was back, she quickly responded with a voice message.
“How about Italian tonight? Mr. Bucham took my brother to an Italian restaurant, and the food was amazing. I’ve been waiting for you to return so we can try it out together. You have no idea how hard it was not to binge when dining with my brother and Mr. Bucham; I would have eaten more than both of them combined p>
Serenity replied with a smile, “I can’t tonight. I just got back with Mr. York, and we’re planning a quiet evening. How about tomorrow night? Let’s invite my sister and Elisa too p>
“We don’t need to include Elisa, since she eats like a lady. She’s not a foodie like you and me. We’re complete opposites when it comes to food. Your sister is trying to lose weight and is currently on a strict diet. She runs three times a day. If we ask her to join us, she’d probably just watch us eat. I doubt we’d be able to enjoy our meal in peace p>
“Seren, your sister’s weight loss is really starting to show. I guess you haven’t seen her yet since you just got back. She lost ten pounds in a week! She’s really committed and pushing herself. I don’t think I could resist food if I were in her position p>
It would indeed be tough for a foodie to stick to a strict diet.
“Your sister has lost twenty pounds since the divorce discussion began. If she keeps this up, she will reach her weight loss goal soon p>
Serenity was concerned when she learned her sister had dropped ten pounds in a week. She asked, “Is my sister not eating at all?” She wasn’t in Wiltspoon to check on her sister’s daily routine. Whenever Serenity called, her sister assured her that everything was fine. Serenity had been advised to concentrate on nursing Zachary back to health.
Jasmine responded, “No, your sister has been working out a lot. She runs three times a day and has reduced her intake of fats and sweets. Plus, she’s busy with the renovation of her shop. Since no one wants to work during the holidays, she took it upon herself to order materials and manage the project. Honestly, I’d be surprised if she didn’t lose weight p>
“She’s eating three meals a day. She doesn’t finish everything on her plate, but she consumes enough calories,” Jasmine added, which eased Serenity’s worries.
“I’ll see you tomorrow night then. Let’s go to that Italian place you mentioned, just the two of us,” Serenity said, deciding not to bring Zachary along since he had just recovered from the flu.
“Sure, I’ll wait for your call,” Jasmine replied.
The two friends exchanged voice messages for a while until Zachary came down the stairs. Serenity informed Jasmine, “My husband is done with work. We’re heading home now p>
“Go on. I need to go grocery shopping with Mom at the market. She insists I accompany her every time. She says I just hang around the house. She always nags me when she sees me reading romance stories on my phone, even though she listens to an audiobook during dinner,” Jasmine explained.
Serenity could easily picture Mrs. Lowe nagging Jasmine. Although Jasmine often complained about it, Serenity felt a pang of jealousy over Jasmine’s mother being present. She wished her own mom would be there to fuss at her, but sadly, her mother was no longer alive.
When Zachary entered, he noticed the smile on Serenity’s face, accompanied by a hint of longing in her expression.
“Seren,” he said as he approached her.
He gently called her name, pulling her back from her thoughts. Serenity snapped out of her reverie and turned to him, asking, “Are you finished with work p>
“I’m all set now. My business trip lasted ten days, but I spent seven of those in the hospital. Callum took over for me, so I didn’t have much to report,” he replied.
He took Serenity’s hand and led her away. “Let’s go home,” he said, and Serenity walked alongside him.
“Having brothers in the same company can be quite convenient,” she remarked. Callum had stepped in to handle Zachary’s duties while he was ill, proving that family members are often willing to support each other without complaint.
Zachary smiled at the thought. He led Serenity to the parking lot, where he drove the national MPV that was parked among the luxury sedans.
