“A big shot was sitting right next to me this whole time?” Sharon was stunned. She quickly pulled out a printed résumé, cleared her throat, and straightened her outfit. Once Gwyneth finished ordering, Sharon formally introduced herself.

She didn’t care about the curious looks from others in the restaurant. She spoke clearly and confidently, with a calm yet witty demeanor. Gwyneth’s eyes lit up instantly.
Gwyneth had just taken over Mercer Group and was in desperate need of good employees. The only problem was, the company wasn’t doing well She wasn’t sure if someone as capable as Sharon would be willing to join.
Sharon noticed her hesitation and added, “I’m not asking for favors. I just want a chance–I don’t need Carol to pull strings for me p>
Gwyneth said with a helpless smile. “I wasn’t worried about that. It’s totally normal to use connections in the job market. What I meant was – Mercer Group isn’t doing too well right now.” She went on to explain the company’s current situation.
“I can guarantee your base salary for now. But how far you can go in the future… it might take time. Could be a couple of weeks, or a few years. I just want you to think carefully,” Gwyneth added.

“You’re not even going to think it over? It’s about your future.” Gwyneth was surprised by how fast she responded.
Sharon shook her head. “No need. I believe birds of a feather flock together. You’re Carol’s friend, which means you’re just as strong and capable. I don’t think you’d steer me wrong.
“Besides, like I said–I only need a chance. And this one’s way bigger than anything I’ve had before p>
Carol clapped excitedly at Sharon’s gutsiness.
Gwyneth smiled. She liked Sharon even more now and was impressed by Carol’s choice of friends.
With everything settled, Gwyneth and Sharon exchanged contact info and agreed to meet again for a proper job interview.
The three of them were about to enjoy their meal when a sneering voice cut in. “Didn’t know beggars could afford this place. Gwyneth, your taste in friends is seriously low. Aren’t you worried they’ll dirty up the Rolls–Royce Cullinan Harrison bought you p>

Carol and Sharon immediately fell silent. They saw Melanie dressed head–to–toe in luxury brands, seated at a table with a group of wealthy socialites – clearly out dining with her high – society friends.
Sharon whispered, “ Is this one of those high–end restaurants? ”
Carol, wearing her usual work outfit – a plain blouse and jeans still spotted with some clay from the studio–didn’t seem to care. “Gwyneth just brought us here for dinner, Who cares if it’s fancy or not? ”
“ Fair point.” Sharon nodded
Melanie overheard them and burst into a mocking laugh. “You two really are country bumpkins–don’t even know where you are, huh?
“Take a good look around. Everyone here is well–dressed and from elite families. A single meal here probably costs more than what you two make in a lifetime.
“ And look at you – clothes that don’t fit, dirty from who–knows–what. What’s the difference between you and beggars? ”
Then she turned her eyes to Gwyneth with a smirk, as if to say only you would hang out with such losers.
Carol and Sharon’s faces instantly darkened. But since Gwyneth had invited them and they didn’t know Melanie well, they kept their heads down, choosing not to respond.
That was, until Gwyneth crossed her arms and spoke coldly. “Wow. I didn’t know lunatics were allowed into this place. What are you ranting about?
