Dierdra’s POV
Avery’s footfalls echoed down the corridor, moving away from us. Zara turned back from her pursuit with a growl that was truly terrifying.
“What do we do now?” I asked, panicking, “If she tells Gideon, we’re so fucked p>
“From what you’ve been telling me, Gideon won’t believe her even if she does,” Zara shrugged, “but it’s not going to come to that p>
She beckoned for me to follow her up a set of stairs and down a carpeted hallways.
“You all arrived later than most of the other Alphas,” Zara explained as she strode ahead of me, “but these are the pack quarters. Each pack has a suite of rooms, and they tend to be geographically grouped, so Silvermoon and Nightwolf are in close proximity p>

place with no crime, so there are no locks on the doors, see?” she opened the door across the hallway and I recognized our suitcases sitting in the middle of a greeting room off of which branched bedrooms, each with their ensuite bathrooms and showers.
“How does this solve our problem?” I asked, following Zara out of the Nightwolf quarters and across the hall into Silvermoon’s rooms.
She beckoned for me to follow her into her private bedroom, where she rummaged through her suitcase and pulled out a folded paper packet.
“Inside of this paper there is a powder,” Zara explained, pressing it into my hand, “Add it to Avery’s drink p>
“What does it do p>
Zara shrugged casually, “It won’t harm her, it’s not poison, but it will effect her decision-making, and lower her inhibitions. She will be very susceptible to suggestion, and with this many randy Alpha’s around, it won’t be long before someone makes and advance. When they do, she will be powerless to resist and will go along with whatever they suggest p>
I nodded, “I don’t think she’ll drink anything I give her,” I pointed out.
“Get another Alpha to give her the drink,” Zara suggested, “Once she goes with one of them, we’ll barge in and catch her in a compromising situation in the morning. Gideon will be furious, and as a shamed Luna, she will lose all credibility p>
I was both impressed by the plan, and terrified by this insight into Zara’s mind. Ever since she had recommended that I impersonate Gideon’s true mate, she had been the one calling the shots, but I was learning.
“Once you see her drink it, let me know, and I’ll have her followed to see whose bed she ends up in,” Zara explained, “then you and I spend the rest of the evening enjoying the ball, and in the morning we out her

Zara gave me a malevolent grin and I smiled back. If Avery was out of the picture for good, then I could take over her role as Luna, and have Gideon all to myself.
I returned to the ballroom, observing that Avery had retreated to one of the couches that was hidden in a dark alcove. She looked upset. Good.
I didn’t see Gideon, which was just as good. I needed a moment to poison her drink.
I swooped by the bar and got a cup of punch, then looked a man to deliver it. My eye landed on the red- headed man she had been dancing with when Gideon and I had been on the dance floor earlier.
Perfect.
I grabbed another cup of punch for myself, and swayed towards the tall Alpha, batting my eyelashes.
“Hello,” he greeted as I stumbled into him, “Doing alright there, miss p>
“Oh! Hello!” I feigned surprise and innocence, “Sorry to run into you. I’m afraid I’ve had a touch too much
to drink. I need to sit down p>
Graciously, the tall Alpha helped me into one of the armchairs.
“Oh goodness,” I sighed, “I was supposed to take this cup of punch to my Luna p>
“Oh! You’re one of the pair…” the red-headed man trailed off, turning his head to look to where Avery sat,” how extraordinary.” I watched his eyes scan the crowd, looking for Gideon no doubt. I had seen how he’d
run him off earlier, which was so annoying.
Why did Gideon persist in keeping an eye on Avery, anyways? He had assured me that he didn’t have feelings for her, but still it seemed like he was always looking for her.
I sighed with frustration and thrust the drugged cup into the red-haired Alpha’s hand.
“She’s upset that no one will dance with her, so I said I’d get her some punch for while she sat,” I pouted, “I’m sure she’d love your company p>
“Would she now, I got the impression…” the Alpha trailed off then shook his head, taking the cup from me, “I thought she was taken p>
I laughed loudly, “No, no! She’s very single. I’m sure she could use your company,” I patted his arm encouragingly, “Gideon just doesn’t want her over-exerting herself. She’s been working so hard, you see, and has a tendency to over-do it. Honestly, if you wanted to take her back to your room and have a quiet evening, that would be ideal p>
“Oh?” The Alpha’s eyebrows rose, “You think she’d be open to that?” He looked over at Avery speculatively, as though recalculating his odds.
“Oh yes, she loves to party,” I giggled, “I’m sure you two would have a great time once she gets a few cups of punch p>

“Well, thank you for the assistance. Are you her wing-man?” the Alpha chuckled.
“Something like that?” my eyes glittered as I sipped at my own cup and waved him off, “Better get going before someone else scoops her up p>
I watched, pleased, as he wove his way across the room with an eager grin. I saw Avery perk up as he approached.
“Enjoy, bitch,” I hissed to myself, watching her accept the cup and drink it gratefully, “You’re in for a wild ride p>
Avery and the red-haired alpha were already smiling at each other and chatting animatedly. I watched as he slid an arm around her shoulders and pointed towards the exit. Avery shook her head at first, but then a minute later they were walking towards the doors.
I nestled into the couch with a feeling of satisfaction. Now I just needed to wait for Gideon to return from the men’s room, or wherever he’d wandered off to. We would dance the night away and then maybe get up to some fun of our own when we returned to our rooms.
Visions of catching Avery, naked in bed with another Alpha, floated through my vision. Gideon’s shocked face when he found her with the Alpha he’d warned her away from. The confusion and accusations that would result…
And any hope Avery had of convincing anyone that Zara and I had been meeting in secret would be ruined, along with her reputation. It was all coming together so nicely.
If everything went perfectly, Gideon would consider Avery’s betrayal a violation of their contract. She didn’t even know that the red-haired Alpha was from a pack that had sworn to bring down Nightwolf for generations.
My revenge would be delicious.
