Firtsheet
I rode into Godlike Pack and stopped the car right in front of my father’s building, the Alpha’s house, to breathe for a moment.
A call that should never have been made. A witness that was never supposed to exist.
What?
Swallowing hard, I got out of the car and headed inside, walking through the hall and into the massive living room that was unnecessarily too spacious. I paused at the entrance.
My family was there. Yenda leaning against the bar counter quietly. The Godlikes. And my father, the Alpha who had texted me. He never reaches out unless it is something grave. That was why I’d left the dinner without a backward glance.
“Cupid p>
Almera rushed forward to hug me. I held her gently, kissed her forehead, then walked up to my father, bowing my head.
He was furious.
He held his cellphone in his hand and threw it at my feet, the crack echoing across the floor.
“A witness!” he roared. “I just got a call from H.O.W.L. They’re investigating the case, as expected, and now they’ve found a witness. I thought you cleared the crime scene, Cupid. I thought you eliminated the threat p>
I frowned, confusion crawling through me like a cold sting.
I did clear the crime scene. Wiped everything that could tie us to anything. A witness? How?
I slowly turned to Desmond, almost glaring. He stepped forward.
“One man, Brown Fash. Night watchman at Hanba’s vacation house. He was there when everything happened. He contacted the detectives at H.O.W.L. today, said he has something to say as a witness p>
I clenched my jaw and looked away.
Information.
Information is always the first, most important thing before a mission. The intel I had before

taking the Hanba job wasn’t accurate.
All thanks to Yenda.
“I’ll handle it, Father,” I said quietly, head bowed.

He sighed sharply, baffled and seething. He walked up to me, placing a heavy hand on my shoulder and forcing my eyes to meet his.
“If you have to kill him into silence, then do it. Understand p>
Silence dropped, thick and sharp.
Before I could respond, a soft sob sounded behind me.
Almera.
“My brother is not an assassin! Why do you keep giving him these dirty jobs?” she cried.
Father looked at her, dropping his hand from my shoulder.
“You were supposed to be in your bedroom, missy,” he warned tightly.
But Almera lifted her chin stubbornly.
“Yenda is the one who bashed someone’s head open and was caught as a criminal. He should pay for it. Why drag Cupid into the mess p>
“Will you shut your mouth?” Catherine snapped, glaring at Almera. “Know who your blood is and who isn’t p>
“Everyone has their specialty,” Lindy added, arms crossed. “The rogue only knows how to spill blood and steal. That’s what he was before Dad brought him home. It’s in his blood. You can’t wash it out p>
Her words slid into my veins like ice.
Their taunts. Their disgust. Their constant disapproval.
From the day I stepped into the Godlike home at thirteen, they had treated me like something wild, dangerous, unworthy. I lived in the guards‘ quarters. Ate only after the true–blooded Godlikes were done. Leftovers. Scraps. Spoiled food.
Father never defended me but he gave me a name. He gave me a shelter. He told me to call him father. That alone won me over.
I’ve worshipped him since.

Only a few in this house never treated me differently. Almera, Desmond, my nephew from Catherine, and my grandmother. They were the only ones who didn’t look at me like a loaded
gun.
Almera wiped her tears, looking down at our sisters with rage.
“My brother is not a thief!” she snapped.
Father rolled his eyes, tired.
“Escort Almera to her room. She’s exhausted,” he ordered the maids.
They moved toward her, but she pulled away, glaring. She wouldn’t go, not until I glanced her
way.
“It’s late. Go rest p>
She froze. Everyone did. The commotion evaporated instantly.
She stared at me as if she couldn’t believe I wasn’t resisting the order… as if she couldn’t understand why I never defended myself from bloodshed.
“Don’t touch me!” she hissed at the maids, but she obeyed, stomping toward her room and slamming the door so hard it echoed.
“Teenagers,” Father murmured. “I don’t know what to do about her p>
Then, with a sharper tone, he looked at me.
“I want results, Cupid. Results. Bring them to me p>
I bowed and turned to leave.
Yenda didn’t say a word from the bar counter, not even when I walked out.
When I reached my car, I paused long enough for Desmond to catch up.
“Give me everything on Brown Fash,” I said without turning. “Every detail. Every weakness p>
“You got it, Boss p>
I got into the car and sped off, nearly cursing my life for being what it is, when all I wanted tonight was to enjoy dinner with that beautiful woman.
I swallowed hard at the thought of her.

Her lips.
The way she’d clung to me like she wanted it more than I did.
So yielding, so small, yet fierce.
Women like that… Strong but soft.
I love that kind.
They fascinate me.
