The glass doors of the police headquarters closed behind him as he stepped outside. The night air felt colder than usual, carrying the damp scent of asphalt and the fading noise of reporters who had crowded the area since afternoon.
Without looking back, he headed straight for the black car waiting at the curb.
The driver quickly opened the rear door. “Same location, sir?” he asked briefly.
Chris nodded. “Yes. Let’s go. Don’t stop anywhere p>
The car pulled away, leaving the city center behind. The reflections of skyscraper lights shimmered across the window before gradually giving way to quieter, emptier roads.
A few minutes later, his phone vibrated.
Cale’s name appeared on the screen. Chris answered without hesitation.
“Why don’t you just go home?” Cale’s voice was flat, but there was nothing relaxed about it. “I’ll handle Harold myself p>
Chris leaned his head back against the seat. “And why should you handle it alone? You’re missing Daven’s welcome celebration p>
Cale clicked his tongue in annoyance. “He deserves it. Besides, after the good news he just received, why would he come with you to see Harold p>
“Then you should’ve invited me instead. I don’t want to miss the best part either,” Chris replied calmly. “We’ve been waiting for this moment for days p>
Cale fell silent for a few seconds. “Suit yourself p>
“Daven will come tomorrow,” Chris continued. “Tonight, we’ll take care of the opening act p>
Cale’s tone turned more serious. “Harold won’t be easy to deal with. He’s still trying to play games with us, even in his current condition p>
Chris stared out at the dark road ahead.
“That’s exactly why I’m coming,” he said quietly. “I want to see the face of the man who’s spent all this time thinking he was the one in control p>
The car kept moving.
SunCity’s downtown faded into the distance. The wide highways narrowed into long stretches cutting through industrial zones and warehouses. Streetlights grew sparse. Far ahead, the dark outline of the sea appeared, the faint sound of waves carried by the night wind.
They had crossed the city limits, heading toward a coastal area rarely used by public traffic.

After nearly an hour, the car turned onto a narrow road with uneven pavement. At the end stood a large, aging concrete building. Parts of the paint had peeled away, and a tall iron fence surrounded the perimeter.
The place looked more like an abandoned warehouse than any official detention facility.
The car stopped in front of the gate. Several men approached immediately and opened the door. Chris stepped out without hesitation.
“Welcome, Mr. Chris,” they greeted in unison, bowing respectfully.
“Is Cale inside?” he asked.
“Yes, sir. They’re waiting for you p>
He walked in.
Inside, the air felt even colder. Bright white lights hung from the high ceiling, illuminating the vast interior, which had been divided into several sections.
On the right side, several people sat with their hands bound-faces he recognized from the reports: financial intermediaries, media liaisons, and individuals connected to the incident involving Kate Callister and Nora.
On the other side, Noel and Oscar were there as well. Both had been moved to this location so that everyone involved could be kept under the same supervision. They looked far better than the last time Chris had seen them.
That, of course, was at Cale’s request.
If it hadn’t been for the live broadcast earlier, Chris was certain their faces would have been battered beyond recognition by now. Who knew how long Noel and Oscar would remain under this kind of pressure? Perhaps the end of their confinement would come only after every confession had been extracted—before they were finally handed over to the police.
Chris didn’t care.
What mattered to him was that they received the punishment they deserved. His family had lived peacefully, their lives steady, their business running smoothly. Even when problems arose, they had never been anything
close to this.
And these people had conspired to tear down everything they had built with such effort-piece by piece?
Chris knew one thing for certain. Especially Cale. Neither of them would make this easy.
He walked past the detainees without stopping until one of the guards quickly stepped forward and showed him the room where Cale was waiting.
It was larger than the others, with several men in black shirts stationed around the space, standing watch.
“You’re here,” Cale said.
Chris gave a faint smirk, pulled a chair closer, and dropped into it casually.
“Long day,” he muttered.
