Lisette shook her head.
“That’s where you’re wrong. I believe a woman should be as successful as possible to marry rich. I make my own money, and I’m marrying into wealth p>
Calliope glanced at her. “So, are you here to share your ambitious plans with me p>
“Of course not,” Lisette replied. “I’m here to tell you that Valerian knows you saved him back then. But he said he’d still stand by me. So don’t think you can stir up trouble. Even if it goes public, he’ll be on my side over yours p>
“Valerian cares more for me than he ever will for you,” Lisette added triumphantly, watching for any distress on Calliope’s face.

Lisette fumed silently while her eyes bore into Calliope. If Valerian couldn’t provoke her, perhaps Gideon would.

Calliope remained as calm as ever, her gaze steady on Lisette. “So p>
