When Teresa went to pick up Michael, she didn’t look too happy. Miriam noticed and asked what was wrong. but Teresa couldn’t be bothered to complain about Jennifer.

Miriam didn’t even think about it before refusing. She said, “No way, I’m not being Jennifer’s bridesmaid p>
Teresa said, “Cathy said she’d give you 3 thousand dollars p>
Miriam still refused. She said, “I wouldn’t do it even for 30 thousand. I barely know Jennifer. Why should I be her bridesmaid p>
Teresa replied, “Alright, I’ll let Cathy know so she can find someone else sooner p>
Just then, Miriam’s phone rang. It was Edward, calling to say he was going to be Donald’s groomsman. Miriam hadn’t even heard about it.
Edward explained, “Donald originally asked four friends to be his groomsmen, but one of them can’t make it, so he asked me to step in p>
“I just got asked by Teresa to be a bridesmaid,” Miriam told him.
Edward said, “Go for it! Maybe some of that wedding luck will rub off on us. We’ll be the next ones to get married p>
Miriam hesitated, thought it over for a bit, then awkwardly told Teresa she’d do it.
Teresa smiled and said, “It’s totally up to you. I’m just the messenger here p>
Miriam sighed and squeezed Teresa’s hand. She said, “If it were your wedding, I’d be happy to be your bridesmaid again, no questions asked p>
Teresa went quiet, memories flashing through her mind. She just said, “You and Edward should be happy. Tell him to hurry up and propose.” Teresa gave Miriam a hug, then took Michael home.
It was late, and the streets were almost empty.
While waiting at a red light, Teresa spotted a man with his arm around a woman heading into a bar. That one glance made her freeze. She found the man looked just like Charlie, Evelyn’s ex–husband.
Teresa took Michael home first and tucked him into bed. But the more she thought about it, the more convinced she became. That sleazy guy she saw on
the street did look like Evelyn’s ex.
She kicked herself for not snapping a photo. Otherwise, she could’ve sent it to Evelyn to double–check.
Teresa glanced at the clock. It was 1:30 a.m. She started the car and drove back to that bar, heading inside.
The streets were silent in the early hours, but inside the bar, it was all flashing lights and pounding music. Guys kept coming over to hit on her, but Teresa turned them all down.
Teresa looked around but didn’t see the person she was looking for. Just as she was about to leave, she heard a creaking sound coming from the
restroom.

A few minutes later, a man came out, zipping up his pants, his arm around a woman with heavy makeup. The two of them were laughing and then about to head out.

Charlie was drunk, but hearing Evelyn’s name made him snap to attention. He asked, “Who are you p>
Teresa spoke slowly and clearly, “I’m Evelyn’s daughter, Teresa. You scammed all my mom’s money. How do you still have the nerve to come back?
Charlie snapped out of it. He shoved the woman aside, yanked his arm free from Teresa, and bolted.
