Sterling walked out, confused but thinking he had succeeded. As he exited the elevator in the lobby, he crossed paths with Aurora and Victor entering.
Sterling laughed. “You’re too late, Aurora. We just had a great meeting. She loves us p>
He looked at Aurora, his eyes scanning her simple attire with disdain. “Reduced to being your own delivery girl? How the mighty have fallen. Or is Pulse so understaffed you have to fetch the coffee yourself p>
Aurora glanced at Dr. Lisa, noting the sweat beading on her forehead and the cheap steel needles sticking out of her bag.
“Did she get the details right, Sterling?” Aurora asked, her voice quiet but sharp. “Because in medicine, the smallest detail is the difference between life and death p>
Sterling stopped. He turned around. “What are you talking about p>
But Aurora was already walking toward the reception, leaving him with a seed of doubt that would soon rot his confidence.
The Pulse company van sat idling outside the Institute. The team had been forced to retreat after Ursula refused them entry again.
Mike, the Marketing Consultant, was furious. His face was red, a vein bulging in his neck.
“Sterling just walked out smiling! We lost!” Mike yelled, slamming his folders shut. “This is a disaster p>
He pointed a finger at Aurora, who was sitting calmly in the corner.
“This is your fault!” Mike screamed. “We wasted time on your ‘intuition’ about Yinn. We should have hired the pop star! Who are you anyway? Some spoiled heiress playing business p>
He grabbed his phone. “I’m calling the agent. We’re pivoting. Now p>
Aurora reached out. Her movement was casual, but fast. She plucked the phone from Mike’s hand.

Victor King sighed. He rubbed his temples. “Mike, sit down p>
“No! I’m the consultant. She’s nobody!” Mike shouted. “Is she sleeping with you, Victor? Is that why she’s here p>
The temperature in the van dropped to sub-zero.
The Vice President, sitting in the front seat, cleared his throat awkwardly.
“Actually, Mike,” the VP said slowly. “Aurora isn’t nobody p>

Victor looked at Mike with pity. “She owns forty percent of Pulse Interactive p>
Mike’s mouth opened, but no sound came out. He looked at Aurora.
“She is the Lead Developer of Apex Ascendant,” Victor continued. “And the majority shareholder. The ‘Phoenix’ you’ve heard rumors about? That’s her p>
Silence stretched, suffocating and thick.
Mike looked at Aurora’s simple clothes. He looked at her calm, deadly eyes.
“But… she’s a kid,” Mike stammered.
Aurora handed him back his phone. She didn’t throw it. She placed it gently in his shaking hand.
