VALENCIA’S POV
“When will she wake up p>
“I don’t know p>
“Did you have any idea what the alpha was talking about p>
“I don’t know p>
“You have been the closest to her. How come you don’t p>
“I said I don’t fucking know. Can you leave me alone? I am already worried p>
“Hey, keep your voice down. The alpha might hear you and then start questioning weird things again p>
I could hear voices around me.
I didn’t need to know who these voices belonged to. It was undoubtedly Dylan and Carl.
But the question was, why was I not able to open my eyes?
’Are you okay, Val?’ Aurora asked me, and I took a deep breath.
’Of course, I am okay. What would happen to -’ I paused, my pupils dilating.
Why was I seeing her right in front of me?
Aurora… She wasn’t a wolf. She was just like me, a human in my mind space.
’What’s going on, Aurora?’ I asked, looking around at the dark room.
It was almost as if I was in some kind of dark abyss, somewhere that had no source of light.
The walls around me were painted completely black. Even the ground I was walking on was black.
But even after the utter darkness, I could see her. Though her face wasn’t visible, Aurora appeared like a lady dressed in a white satin dress, floating very far away from me.
Everything was unclear and clear at the same time.
’It’s because of what happened earlier. You will gain consciousness slowly,’ Aurora said, and I furrowed my brows before the memories flowed in my head like a wave of tsunami.
Those voices, those unfamiliar blurred faces, that fire, it was almost as if I was living that moment too.
This wasn’t the first time I suffered this either.
It was around when I was 12 when something like this happened. Luckily at that time, I was still too little to change into a wolf and my family hadn’t yet abandoned me or I don’t know what they would’ve done that night and left me to burn into that fire that started out of nowhere.
It was my dad who saved me at that time because of what I used to call my hero.
At that time I asked Mom if I had ever had any kind of fire incident before, but she denied it.
Thus, it confuses me when I keep having these snippets. They were definitely pieces of someone’s memory, but whose?
I was about to ask Aurora if she had any idea as to why I kept thinking of those people and having those memories because I got her now and she might know something when I felt something cold on my face, and I was sucked back into reality, pulling myself out of my subconscious state.
I blinked my eyes open, and the first thing I noticed was a blue-eyed man hovering over me.
“See, I told you, this is one of the best ways to wake her up. Nothing can beat her love for food p>
I heard them speak, and I furrowed my brows, looking around.
This was a hospital. No doubt. With a groan, I tried to sit and Aiden rushed forward to help me with it before I looked at my friends who were standing there with a concerned expression on their faces.
“Here?” Aiden extended his hand that was holding a glass of cold coffee.
I couldn’t help but smile at his antics.
I am sure he was doing all of this to distract all of us from the emotional talk, and I was grateful for that.
“I am sorry for worrying you guys,” I whispered and Tracy threw her in my arms.
“Do you have any idea how scared we were when we didn’t find you there? I nearly had a heart attack,” She cried in my arms, and I felt my heart melting immediately.
Caressing her back, I sighed before looking at Henry.
Though he jokes around all the time, today even he was standing quietly.
“Come on, guys. I just had a moment of slip-up. Stop acting like -” I paused when the door of the room was opened.
As soon as my gaze met Dylan and Carl, I knew what was coming next and I sighed.
“I am sure you guys were taken aback too. Why don’t you go and rest up? I will probably be charged in a couple of hours anyway,” I said to my human friends and Aiden turned to look at the two guys near the door before looking at me understandingly.
He didn’t know about Dylan and Carl, but he knew there was a secret part of me that I wasn’t ready to tell anyone, and he respected that, never overstepping his boundaries and asking me anything.
In fact, in times like these, he helps me with distracting our friends.
After a few more exchanges of words, everyone left and Aiden told me he would be staying out of the room just in case until I was discharged.
I didn’t argue with that one. There was no way I was going to win the argument anyway.
As soon as my friends left Dylan and Carl entered again and walked to my bedside.
He kept looking at me for a few seconds before he sighed and hugged me, nearly scooping me in his arms, making me look at Carl who shook his head at me to not make any useless joke and let the man calm down.
“Hey, everything is fine. I am okay,” I said, and Dylan sighed.
“You are okay now. Do you know what I went through, how my heart ached and my mind was all over the place when the alpha called me and told me what happened?” Dylan asked and I stayed silent.
I knew he was worried. If I had been in his place, I would’ve been worried sick too.
I looked at Carl again, hoping for him to help me comfort the man because I was really bad at this thing, especially when it was my fault.
“I don’t know what happened,” I said after some time and he pulled away before sitting in front of me.
They started talking. I could see their lips moving, but my mind wasn’t listening to them anymore. All I could think about was the last voice I heard before closing my eyes and losing consciousness completely.
And no, it wasn’t how he asked me to keep my eyes open and that he wouldn’t let anything happen to me. It was p>
“Don’t you dare close your eyes on me? We have so many days and moments to fight over p>
It was, I don’t know how to describe what it was, but the emotions in those words didn’t settle well with me.
Or was I thinking too much into things?
“-thankfully, Alpha Maverick saved you from the fire p>
Dylan’s words caught my attention.
“What do you mean Alpha Maverick saved me? It was his beta, Shadow,” I clarified.
“Is that so? But it was the alpha who called us,” Dylan looked at Carl, and I understood where this was going.
Probably Shadow let the alpha take the credit so they could make a good impression in front of the council members. That was probably the reason he asked his alpha to call Dylan and Carl because I told him today that they were here.
Stupid guy. I understand that his alpha’s image was more important to him, but did he really need to go that far? Then again, it was probably his loyalty that made him stand out among all the subordinates of that alpha.
“Must be some confusion,” I said, not wanting to expose Shadow and ruin his hard work.
That’s the least I can do for him after he risked his life to save me.
“I am sorry. There were so many things I had planned for us, but I can’t enjoy them with you anymore and you’ll leave soon,” I held Dylan’s hand, finding comfort in his touch and he sighed.
“Stop acting like I am leaving forever. Don’t forget that the annual ball will be conducted by Alpha Maverick this time, and if you behave, I might invite you as my partner,” Dylan said arrogantly, making me smile.
“Hey, what about me?” Carl looked at us with fake offense, and all of us chuckled at his actions.
“Carl, drop Dylan at the airport and take your time shifting. I don’t really hate your presence that much around me anymore,” I said, and the guy rolled his eyes.
I knew he understood that I wanted him to get to know Dylan better and tell me what was really going in his head because no matter how hard Dylan tried, it was clear that something was indeed going in his head, and he wasn’t telling me about it.
