VALENCIA’S POV
My eyes widened as I looked at the man in front of me who Carl was saying was none other than the alpha I had been trying to avoid, the alpha who could give me a death sentence any second.
“Y-you! You are the alpha?” I asked him, completely baffled.

“Carl, can you check the documents with my Beta Shadow? I just want to ask her a few questions regarding what happened. Just a normal protocol. I am sure the council wouldn’t want to interject with something like this,” Shadow, I mean, Alpha Maverick said, he didn’t even look at the man he was speaking to, his gaze not moving away from my face, and Carl immediately left.
Yes. That was the kind of power Alpha Maverick had, the power which even the council was afraid of going against him.
How the hell did I never see that?
That day also when Dylan and Carl said it was Alpha Maverick who saved me, I thought Shadow was uselessly giving the credit to his alpha, and I even bad-mouthed the guy right on his face.
All those people bowed to him wherever he was going, and I thought it was because he was a follower of the Alpha p>
Just how dumb could I be?
Everything was right in front of me from the very beginning and it was me who chose to be the blind one.
“Yes, I am. And you belong to this alpha,” He whispered before he bent and captured my lips, making me widen my eyes.
What was he doing? I wondered before I felt his hand sneaking around my waist as he pulled me close to kiss me deeper.
It felt like bliss.
Just as always, he tasted like the best dessert for my craving. His identity didn’t change the fact that I loved every second of him moving his lips against mine. That was the kind of control he was having on me as he pulled me close, making a small moan leave my mouth.
It was a little hard to breathe.
I didn’t know if it was anxiety because now I knew he was an alpha, nervousness because I was afraid someone would see us despite the darkness that only increased the moment he kissed me, or was it the fact that I was getting lost in his loss again, forgetting how to breathe completely.
And even after all this happened to me, my body, my feelings, and my brain were going on and on about how I was kissing an alpha, how I was letting an alpha kiss me.
I couldn’t digest the information.
Yes, it was true that I was a liar myself and was hiding things like I was a rogue and could change into a cat or possibly into many feline species, I still couldn’t digest the fact that the man I was interacting with all this time wasn’t the beta of the pack but the alpha himself.
And he… How dare he act like a beta to kiss me and come near me? What was his purpose?
Was he playing with me all this time?
And was he still daring to kiss me after all this? All the questions clogged my head and I finally snapped out of my emotions.
I pushed him away from me, and I know if he did not want to, I wouldn’t have been able to budge him, but I needed time.
I needed time to make myself believe it.
Shadow was Alpha Maverick. He was the alpha from the very beginning.
All those times he told me he would talk to his alpha about me, all those times I turned into my cat and ran into his room, lied on the same bed as him, kissed him, let him hug me, let him make me feel those things, he was an alpha all the time, something I truly hate.
“Y-you stay away from me,” I glared at him before turning around.
Without looking back, I walked out of the venue, not caring about anything anymore.
Tears welled in my eyes, and I looked at Carl who was talking to some man, probably the real Shadow of the Dark Callisto pack.
I walked to him, feeling wronged for some reason, and was about to speak when Carl beat me to it.
“Valencia, what was that all about?” He asked me, and I shook my head.
He was probably asking me how I was so close to Alpha Maverick, and I honestly had no answer to this.
I didn’t want to hear any scolding at the moment. I stepped ahead to hug him, feeling the need to comfort him.
“Weren’t you done being bullied back in your home that you have to let someone as pesky as a human land a hand on you?” Carl asked, and I froze in my place, halting in my actions.
What did he say?
My gaze wavered immediately as I looked at him with disbelief, and I am sure Carl realized what he said.
He just didn’t go there. Why was every man around me attacking me today?
I stepped back from him. I was probably looking for comfort in the wrong place. How could I forget that I didn’t really have anyone to go to find comfort?
“Val, that’s not what I meant, I just Carl tried to grab my hand, but I glared at him through my tearful eyes before running in the direction of the road where I would be able to catch the taxi.
I could hear Shadow, I mean, the Alpha calling out for me.
“What happened, Alpha p>
“I need to talk to her,” Alpha Maverick’s voice was the last thing I heard before I hailed the taxi to go back to the lake house.
No, wait.
They knew my place. I took the Alpha to my place myself, acting like a complete fool and believing that a beta wouldn’t hurt me like that, that he was probably different from others because he made my heart melt for him.
Then again, just like all the other alphas I met so far, he turned out to be deceiving too.
I blinked my eyes to shoo away the tears before asking the taxi driver to take me to Angela’s apartment, the one I had rented earlier.
I reached there after some time, but just my pure bad luck, she wasn’t at home.
’Valencia, you are probably overreacting. At least give him a chance to explain things,’ Aurora said, and I nodded at her.
I was probably overreacting just like she was saying, but was I not allowed to?
I have met 7 alphas so far and none of them was worthy of their Luna’s love, always acting self-centered and above all.
The first time I loved an alpha, I got betrayed, and this alpha… What should I even say about this alpha?
I felt a little heartbroken, anxious, and confused all at once.
Why? Because even if he lied to me, and hurt me, I was afraid if he came again and kissed me, saying the same words and promises, I would probably lose myself to him.
As I was busy contemplating which direction to go while standing near the forest, I was about to walk towards my house, left with no choice when I felt someone behind me.
And before I could react, something hard struck my head, making my ears ring as hot blood flew down the back of my neck.
I turned around, my hand pressed on my wound, but all I could see was a blurred figure before darkness took over me completely.
