Chapter 226
Summer POV
The night before, after everyone had left my room, and I was alone, I sat at the edge of the bed, thinking about the events of the day. I grabbed my head in my hands, wondering where I landed myself. Escape looked like a distant reality. Feeling mentally exhausted, I dragged my feet to the bathroom and took a long, hot bath.
On coming out, I saw that my bag was in my room, and all my clothes were out of it. So I walked to the closet to take out my only pajamas and shirt for the night. However, I was stunned when I saw that several new dresses were hanging inside with their price labels intact. I looked at the labels and was shocked to see that the cost of each of them was higher than what I earned in a year. Five pairs of matching footwear peeked from the last shelf.
People were so rich? Every dress was more beautiful than the last. I swallowed as I wondered if I could wear them. Or did they belong to the previous owner? But all of them seemed like they were my size. My eyes went to a small note on the side. I picked it up and read.
‘Dear Summer, this is a small gift from Alpha Bradley for you for Luna trials.

I let out a rough exhale. Probably he didn’t want to see me in shabby clothes in front of all the Lunas. I was representing Laura, and he must have thought that he had to help a poor maid. Anyway, this was a generous gift. I pulled out my pajamas and my long–sleeved cotton shirt from there, and wore it. The dresses were for formal occasions. I wouldn’t soil them otherwise. Though I did notice a few night dresses as well.
Once I was in bed, I read the entire schedule for Luna trials and memorized it. It was an exhausting schedule, but I prayed to God that I did well. Else Morelli would eat me alive. As soon as Laura was fine, I’d quit and escape.
In the morning, I took a nice bath, and chose to wear a baby blue dress. Then I combed my hair straight, and applied the only makeup I owned. A pink lip gloss. I wore white ballet shoes with it, and walked out to be in the lobby with other contestants, when I heard a loud, impatient knock on the door.
Topened my room’s door and found Alpha Bradley standing there. Shirtless. My breath hitched as my gaze landed on his chest. He had such a perfectly sculpted body that it should be a crime. Every plane, every dip was chiseled to perfection. His hair was tousled and falling on his forehead. I had to drag my gaze with effort to look at him, and noticed that he was inhaling the air deeply with his nostrils flared. And the expression on his face was that of agony. He looked stunned, like he was bereft of words. Was I smelling bad? Embarrassed, I bit my bottom lip as my cheeks heated.
“Alpha Bradley?” I whispered.
“You look stunning!” he blurted.
I think I had switched off the AC of the room because the temperature suddenly went high. “Th–thank you, ” I said. He was standing in front of me, blocking my path, and I was getting late. After an awkward moment of silence, I said, “I have to go to the lobby p>
He clenched his jaw as if hating the idea of me going to the lobby. A crease formed on my forehead at his reaction. Finally, he gave a tight nod and stepped aside. I slightly bowed my head in courtesy, closed the door behind me and walked to the elevator.
“Summer!” he called me as I pressed the button of the lift.
I looked over my shoulder. “Yes p>
He ran his fingers through his hair. “My room is right in front of yours. If you need any help, even if it is during midnight or after that, you can call me. ”
I cocked my eyebrow. Why would I need help during midnight or after that? Unless he wanted me to-
“I’m not that kind of girl, Alpha Bradley!” I said sharply. The door of the lift opened, and I stepped in rather annoyed.
“ That’s not what I meant!” he rasped as he came toward me. He stopped the lift from closing and stepped inside. After pressing the lobby button, he turned to me. “You got me wrong p>
I pressed my back to the opposite wall, feeling like a mouse in front of a lion. “ Okay p>

Fuck! ” he grunted, stabbing his hand in his hair. “ I’m sorry, but I didn’t mean to offend you
My fear eased a little. Just then the door of the lift opened, and I saw a few girls outside. They jerked their heads when they realized that I was with shirtless Alpha Bradley. Once again, i blushed so deep, hoping that they didn’t get the wrong meaning
“ Alpha Bradley,” one of them cooed.
“ Daisy, ” Bradley gave her a tight nod while I hurried out p>
“Will you be joining us?” she asked.
“I’m not sure,” he replied absentmindedly as he watched me leave. “Do you want me to? ”
“Of course!” Daisy beamed. “We would love it p>
But why did I feel he was asking me that question? Shaking my head, I just walked to the lobby where most of the contestants were already present Since they all knew who I was and I was sure that they must have heard about Laura, I decided to stay away from all of them. Less talking meant less visibility. It would be easy to escape.
So I went to stand near the table where they were serving coffee and biscuits. I got myself a latte, and stood in a corner quietly, watching the beautiful butterflies who were chatting and seducing every Alpha in the room. If seduction worked, then I was sure I would lose. I had no seducing powers. Sighing, I sipped my coffee.
All at once a man clapped loudly. “Boys and girls!” he called. “I am your guide and MC, Alex Moley. Today is the first round of the Luna trials. As you’ve already read, we will be taking the girls to the hospital. You will see the patients, interact with them and make them feel nice. We will observe you, evaluate you, and in the evening during dinner, we will announce the results. Two of you will be leaving us tonight p>
A ripple of excited murmurs and whispers passed through the room.
Alex continued, “As for the Alphas, you can accompany the girls, but you won’t interact with them. You can watch them from a distance p>
“Hi Summer,” a deep voice sounded from the side.
I whipped my head to see that Alpha Damon was standing near me. Honestly, after last night’s episode, I gathered that he wasn’t to be trusted.
“You look beautiful,” he said with a hint of lust in his eyes.
What was wrong with him? I pursed my lips in a tight smile.
“I hope you don’t lose. I’d hate to see you lose. After all, I’m interested in Laura p>
Oh.
Then he leaned over me and whispered, “And who knows that I might make you my Luna? Laura can choose someone else p>
Like what? My jaw dropped. How pathetic was this man? Quickly, I moved away from there, and he chuckled. I hurried to the small van that was waiting for the girls to board to take us to the hospital.
The journey lasted half an hour and I sat in the last all alone, sure that no one wanted my company. However, Daisy and her two friends came to sit with me. It was really surprising, but I felt good. “Hi!” I said to them, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. This was a good opportunity to make friends.
Daisy gave me a smile which didn’t reach her eyes. “We know that you will win p>
I opened my mouth and then snapped it shut because I was confused.
“Oh, don’t be so coy,” she said as her friends giggled. “You came down with Alpha Bradley, and he was shirtless. What do you want us to think? That you two were not cozying up p>
“ You’ve got it wrong, Daisy,” I denied.

She laughed more, attracting the attention of other girls. “But what else can you expect from a maid? And that too, a human maid? I mean, you don’t possess any quality that would make you win. So you tried seduction p>
Everyone in the van laughed, as my mouth dropped at her blatant insinuation. Anger bubbled inside me. “Funny,” I said, my eyes narrowing asi met Daisy’s gaze. “I didn’t realize that being a maid came with a degree in mind–reading. I’m sure you know all about seduction because you really think that’s all I’ve got. Maybe you should get a job as a talent scout for maids p>
The van went quiet as Daisy’s expression faltered.
