The Alpha Pack had always been described in the record books as a small, quiet territory. A pack with no Beta.
The previous Alpha, Jabe Alpha was a drunkard who was said to have died in the liquor shop one night.
His eldest son, Feroz, took the title and lived in near–total seclusion. Gates locked, no media appearances, no involvement in inter- pack affairs or business.
A tiny pack, offering nothing of value to its neighbors. No one suspected anything. No one bothered to look closer.
We were wrong.
History had either lied or simply never bothered to see the truth.
Driving through the gates of Alpha Pack, the ominous energy hit like a physical weight. It pressed against my chest, thick and suffocating.
From the outside, the pack looked normal. Neat houses, orderly few streets, wolves moving about their day. But the air itself felt wrong. Heavy. Rotten. Like a tunnel with no light at the end, only darkness, again and again.
I had been to dark places before. I had stood inside prison yard during the Marlik case and felt nothing but cold stone and despair. I thought no place could surpass that kind of darkness.
I was wrong.
Alpha Pack was worse.
The moment our convoy rolled in, H.O.W.L. vehicles, police cars, sirens cutting the quiet, the pack members slowed. Stared. Whispers rippled outward like poison in water. Reporters were already here, cameras flashing, but they were being held back behind barricades.
I stepped out of the car.
Dove waved at me from the crowd. I gave her a short wave in return. grateful she was here, grateful she had come.
“Let her through,” Eshan’s voice rang out, addressing the officers blocking the press line.
I turned. He was speaking to the guards, gesturing toward Dove. Eshan didn’t deal with reporters directly, he was too big a name
for that but this case was different. Too personal. He wanted only trusted voices near us. Dove was family.
“Come on,” he said to her.
She hurried forward, joining us.
A woman rushed out from Feroz’s residence. Middle–aged, eyes hollow, bowing low.
“From H.O.W.L.,” Eshan said, flashing his badge. “We have a warrant to search the house of Feroz Alpha p>
“Come, sir,” she murmured, voice barely above a whisper.

I was supposed to follow.
But I couldn’t.
The eyes of the pack members were on us, too many eyes, too much weight. Whispers followed me like cold fingers brushing my neck. Something pulled at me. Dark, insistent, calling from deeper within the territory.
Without thinking, I walked away from the group.
“Snow?” Quince called from behind.
“Let her be,” Eshan said quietly. He knew. He trusted my instincts, even without my wolf, I could feel energies, Light. Dark. Good. Evil.
I moved toward the back of the pack, toward a single building almost completely hidden from sight, tucked behind a line of trees and low walls.
My heart raced as I approached.
I pushed open the door.
And froze.
Girls. Women. Scattered across the floor. Some naked, some clothed in rags, all bruised, all broken. Their eyes were empty, traumatized beyond words. The air stank of fear, blood, and despair.
I wanted to run. To flee this unholy place and never look back but something deeper inside called me forward.
I walked, slowly, toward a bedroom at the end of the hall. I pushed the door open.
And there it was.
Yasmin had been right.
Feroz kept my picture, wide and central, on the wall of his bedroom. Among dozens of horrible images, stab wounds, bloodied bodies, victims frozen in their final moments, mine hung in the very middle.
Naked. Lying in the snow of the dark alley. The photo he must have taken that night.
He had stared at it for years. Relived it. Relieved himself to it while I tried to convince myself it was all over.
Slowly, fingers shaking, I reached for it.
I tore it down.
Then another and another.
Tears burned my eyes as I ripped them apart piece by piece, faster and faster, until the wall was bare and my hands were trembling with rage and grief and relief.
“Snow p>
Eshan’s voice has sharp, grounding, cut through the haze.

He burst into the room, wrapped his arms around me from behind, holding me tight as sobbed into his chest
“It’s over, Snow,” he whispered, voice thick. “It’s over now p>
I clung to him, shaking, breaking, finally letting it all out.
At last.
At last.
