“I know it.” Feroz’s voice cuts through the room, low and venomous, making me go slowly still. “You have solid backup from him p>
Him? Who is he referring to?
He takes a deliberate step forward. I bite my lower lip hard, feeling Pinky Pie’s hand clamp onto my arm in a death grip. Feroz pauses, jaw set tight.
“You have the support of those up high. The Mafia p>
“More like a security system,” Pinky Pie answers before I can, stepping in front of me protectively. “You’re the one with support from someone high for you to be here. Care to tell us who it is p>
Feroz looks at her for a brief, assessing moment, then sets his jaw harder. His gaze slides down her body in a slow, predatory
sweep.
He takes another step forward. Pinky falters, pulling back instinctively, realizing trash–talking him won’t work.
No choice left. After everything, it’s time to face him head–on.
“What do you want?” I ask, meeting his eyes directly. I can feel Cupid’s energy drawing nearer, stronger, steady, closing in fast. He’ll be here soon. “You said it’s only those who stole your drugs you’re after. Then why are you here? I’m not the one who took your drugs p>
He frowns slightly, searching my eyes quietly, deep, almost pained then swallows.
“You have his eyes. Your father p>
The sudden change of direction throws me. When he takes another step closer, he frowns again.
“I’ve always hated him p>
Those words settle heavy in my chest. He sighs, lowering his gaze.
“You know he’s the true villain of all this p>
“No.” I disagree flatly.
Feroz lifts his gaze sharply. He never expected pushback. Pinky’s hand tightens on me, a silent plea to calm him down, but no. I’d rather choose death than soothe his delusions. He hates that Mooncrests are more powerful than Alphas.
“My father was never the true villain,” I say, staring deep into his eyes. “Your father, bless his poor soul, told you the same thing that rainy night before you stabbed him countless times.
“He told you, his own son, that the love your parents had just wasn’t enough to survive the trials of time and test. My father didn’t steal your mom away from yours. Your father wasn’t weak like you see him.
“Blame it on the affection between your mother and father being too fragile, never strong enough to endure and win through every obstacle p>

I’m speaking fast, words tumbling out until I don’t see him move. In a blur he closes the distance, grips my neck, and hurts me against the wall.
Pinky screams in horror, rushing to my side while I lie there for one heart–stopping second, dazed, certain I’ve broken something
“Don’t feed me bullshit,” Feroz snarls. “Your father is the true villain, and I avenge his cruelty through you. That’s what happened and I’ll do it again p>
He surges toward me. Before Pinky can react, his men grab her and yank her away. Feroz hauls me up and bends me over the table.
“Snow!” Pinky screams.
Feroz yanks me upright to face him again, jaw locked, determined to force the confession or make me suffer.
“Your father is the true villain. He stole Mom away from my father, and because of that you suffered. That’s it. Right p>
In response, I spit directly in his face, disgust burning through me.
“You’re only a psychopath. You killed your own poor father and blame it all on revenge. No.” I pin my gaze to his. “You’re nothing but a killer. A sex offender. A stain on your father’s reputation, a disgrace to your mother, and a failure to his pack, even to your drug empire.
“Your brother is dead, but you couldn’t do anything. Your drugs went missing, but you’re powerless to get them back.
“You have no one, no true ally, beside you except those who will use you again and again and chew you up when they’re done p>
He slaps me so hard my vision whites out. I taste blood.
The last expression on his face chills my heart. Pure, unfiltered rage before he spins me around, slams me against the table again, and starts undoing his trousers. I lower my gaze, wondering if this is truly the end, until it isn’t.
A sudden surge of raw power explodes through the room. Naked, blinding speed that blurs everything and raises every hair on my neck.
Feroz is ripped away and slammed against the wall. I’m pulled free from the table. It happens so fast that when I finally blink, I realize he’s here.
Cupid.
His face is covered, just like the night we first met, but I feel his energy, unmistakable, protective and I know it’s him.
Feroz’s men surge toward him. In the blink of an eye, he fights through them, not shooting, only injecting something into their veins. When the last one drops, Feroz rises from the floor where he fell, locking eyes with Cupid.
A heart–stopping face–off.
Cupid pulls away from me to keep me out of danger. I rush to Pinky’s side and pull her close.
Feroz sets his jaw, furious at the interruption. The fight erupts. I’ve never seen Cupid in full combat until now.
Tables shatter, jaws are punched then Feroz takes a brutal hit and slams to the floor, the crack of dislocated bone echoing.
He lies there lifeless for a moment, then jerks and spits blood. Cupid leans against the wall, breathing hard, exhausted. He turns to

“Call them to open the doors p>
Stunned, I’d completely forgotten I hurry to dial.
As I do, Feroz surges to his feet and begins to shift. My throat closes. I go still.
Cupid is perfect in human combat, but against Feroz’s werewolf form? He might not win.
Feroz is an Alpha.
I haven’t even spoken into the call when his magnificent wolf emerges, massive, furious and leaps to attack Cupid. Cupid dodges, rolling aside, but it happens too fast. Feroz’s wolf pins him to the floor, claws inches from his face.
I watch him struggle, see evil winning, then everything suddenly pauses. The world narrows to a single, shattering emotion that surges through my heart like a bandage ripping free.
My bones crack in a split second. My hands distort, lengthening into massive wolf paws. My vision sharpens to impossible clarity.
I experience my first–ever shift in a twisting heartbeat. Without control, my wolf spirit surges forward on her own, brutal, instinctively slamming into Feroz with enough force to hurl him off Cupid.
Cupid seizes the momentum, grabs Feroz’s wolf form, and snatches a rope from nearby. He wraps it around the wolf’s neck just as every door and window in the building unlocks at once.
Cupid leaps toward the open window, using the rope to hang Feroz’s wolf by the neck.
Guards surge in through the doors, but Feroz is already choking, suspended. Cupid moves with flawless, fluid grace, scaling the tall. fence in one powerful leap and vanishing into the night.
I stand on all fours, watching him disappear. My heart warms, floods with something ancient and certain. For the first time, my werewolf spirit speaks her first word clear, undeniable.
