“That’s not true,” I said gently, closing the distance between us. “Maybe he’s just… mad. He only just found out I’m his daughter after all these years, and suddenly here you are, appearing out of nowhere to take me away p>
I expected him to lighten, to crack that small, crooked smile of his. But he didn’t. He exhaled heavily instead, shoulders tight.
I stepped closer, wrapping my arms around his neck and rising onto my tiptoes to kiss his lips soft, reassuring.
“Maybe you should pay him a visit,” I suggested against his mouth. “Try to get along with him. Hmm p>
He searched my eyes again after that, weighing the idea. Finally he nodded, agreeing quietly. Tenderly I leaned in once more, kissing him deeper this time.
His hands came around my waist, warm and sure, pulling me flush against him. He kissed me back, slow, lingering, pouring everything unspoken into it. At last he pulled away with a soft sigh.

I frowned up at him.

My frown deepened. I took a step back so I could really look at him.

He leaned in to kiss me again, but I turned my face at the last second, refusing to let him distract me. I needed answers.
“I should go get my stuff,” he said quietly. “My things. The money will be sitting there for a while, years, probably before I can launder it into my net worth. Or maybe I should just give it away. What do you think p>
I didn’t speak right away. Instead I walked to the couch and settled down, legs curling beneath me. He watched me for a moment, then came and sat beside me.

He searched my eyes in silence, the tension in his frame slowly easing. Then he leaned in tenderly and kissed my lips gentle, grateful, full of quiet promise.
The rush came suddenly, the doorbell rang, sharp and insistent.
‘You can’t be doing this, sir!” the security guard’s voice snapped from outside, but the doorbell kept ringing relentlessly. I had to

‘Cupid, call the cops,” I said over my shoulder without looking back.
Ares went rigid at the words. He rushed further into the living room, stopping short when he saw Cupid standing there.
He swallowed thickly, gaze sweeping the cozy space, the soft lighting, the framed photos until it landed on the large picture of Cupid on the wall. He scoffed, bitter and broken.
He turned to me, grave and desperate.

I exhaled shakily, the adrenaline draining out of me in a rush. I turned and walked straight into Cupid’s arms.
