Cupid
Desmond and I arrived at Marlik’s house that night, bone–deep exhausted.

We had slipped away from the wedding while Snow continued on to Castle Pack for the rituals. The drive had been quiet, too quiet, ach mile stretching the weight of unspoken things between us.
Ve headed inside. Marlik met us in the living room, eyes immediately scanning behind us.
Where’s Dove?” he asked, brow furrowing.
rolled my eyes.
Your mate is so damn stubborn. She said she’s going to Castle Pack for the rituals p>
My goodness. She’s pregnant p>
The Castles are like family to her,” I said, shrugging. “And the Frosts are even more family. Let her be p>
Marlik exhaled sharply but didn’t argue further. I glanced around the warmly lit space.
Where is everyone p>
le didn’t have time to answer.
Almira appeared at the top of the balcony stairs, clutching a document in her hand. The moment she spotted me, she rushed down, steps quick and eager.
‘It’s the notice from my school, Cupid. ” She thrust the paper toward me. “They said Dad signed off completely as my guardian which means you’ll be paying the fees from now on p>
took the document and scanned it. The numbers jumped out immediately, steep, but not unexpected for the elite college she attended, Beside me, Marlik leaned in to peek and let out a low gasp.
‘That’s… too much. Is that really what she paid for fees p>
“ It’s a great college,” I murmured, eyes still on the page. “ You gotta see it.” I turned to Almira and nodded. “Let’s do it then.” “Will you come with me to clarify things at the office?” she asked, hope bright in her voice.
I paused. Swallowed. The truth sat heavy in my chest.
Of course not. I won’t be here to be able.
“Sure,” I said instead, forcing calm into my tone. “If I can’t make it, Marlik will go with you. Or Mother. Or Desmond. How about that p>
Her face fell for half a second before she masked it.
“It’s you I want p>

She didn’t even try to hide it. I smiled, small, genuine and took her hand.

I escorted her upstairs to the room she had claimed as her own. She set the document carefully on the table, then climbed into bed. I watched her settle beneath the covers.
I looked around. She had made the space her own, soft lights, a few framed photos, books stacked neatly on the shelf. Somehow it felt more peaceful here than anything the Godlike pack had ever offered.
I walked to the bed, pulled the coverlet up over her shoulders with careful tenderness, and sat on the edge of the mattress. I searched her eyes for a long moment.
She smiled up at me, small, radiant.
“For the first time, Cupid… I’m truly happy.” Her voice was soft, almost reverent. “No more fear that you’ll get shot while you’re out there working. Your rogue family, they’re good too. But that Yasmin…” She rolled her eyes dramatically. “She keeps bragging about knowing you first. Ugh p>
I had to laugh, quiet, warm at the jealousy flashing across her face.
“It’s fine,” I said, brushing a strand of hair from her forehead. “She knew me first, sure. But that doesn’t take away a single bit of the love I have for you. Hmm p>
She smiled victoriously, content, and I nodded for her to close her eyes.
She obeyed, lashes fluttering shut. I lingered a moment longer, memorizing the peaceful rise and fall of her breathing, then quietly stood and walked out. I looked back one last time before closing the door with a soft click.
I made my way toward the stairs when I noticed Yasmin’s door slightly ajar. Gentle light spilled into the hallway. I stepped inside.
She was painting, brush moving in sure, practiced strokes across the canvas. She had grown even more skillful. When she saw me, her face split into a wide, unguarded grin.
“You’re here p>
“Shouldn’t you be asleep by now? ” I asked, eyebrow raised.
She shook her head.
“Just a minute, please p>
I paused beside her easel and looked at what she was creating. A slow smile curled at the corner of my lips.
“Your werewolf memory is vivid,” I said softly.
“That’s Rogue Town,” Mother’s voice came from behind me quietly, thick with memory.
I turned. She stepped into the room, Marlik right behind her. He moved to stand beside the canvas, eyes fixed on the painting. Silence fell, solemn, heavy.
Yasmin had captured it perfectly. The ramshackle buildings, the garbage–strewn alleys, the filth everyone else called squalor. But in her brushstrokes it wasn’t just decay, it was home.
The place where our childhood memories still lived, bright and unbroken despite everything we lacked.

“We were living together well,” Mother said, voice low and trembling with emotion. “As a small family. Before the Alpha came and ruined it for us p>
I swallowed hard. Blinked against the sudden sting in my eyes.
“We found each other again years later,” I said quietly. “And the long between us never decreases p>
She nodded, reaching out to take my hand. Her fingers were warm, steady.
Marlik gripped my shoulder firmly, grounding, emotions thick in the air between us. Yasmin kept painting, adding detail to the grime, the broken windows, the narrow streets.
She rendered Rogue Town exactly as it was. Dirty, low, forgotten and yet in her hands it became something sacred.
Our home.
The Downside Rogue Town.
