Chapter 10:
“Thank you, Mr. Stone,” they replied.
“I believe you know why we’re here?” the fair-skinned one said.
“Yes, I suspect I do, but I would still like a proper explanation,” I replied, rubbing my chin with my right hand.
“As you know, your board of directors contacted us a few days ago, but we were waiting to hear from you as the Chief Executive Officer of the company. However, we did not receive any calls or feedback from you,” the dark-skinned man said.
“They are pushing to liquidate the company, and they claim the majority has voted in favor, but we do not proceed without following the proper procedures. We cannot liquidate assets under your jurisdiction or custody without your authorization,” they continued.
“We would need you to sign this consent form, which was sent to your email a few days ago, but there was no response,” they added.
“I see,” I replied, staring thoughtfully at the consent form, which I had already decided I would never sign. Those long-bearded fools had truly forgotten who was the boss and who had put them in their place.
“I’m sorry, gentlemen, that you had to make this tedious trip all the way from your offices just to come down here. There’s actually been a new development: my board of directors and I will be meeting in a few days to restructure and reconsider the decision to liquidate my family’s company’s assets,” I said emphatically.
“Nonetheless, not to let your journey go to waste, I will keep this in mind and hold onto it, just in case we decide to maintain the previous decision to liquidate,” I replied.
“That would be no problem at all. If that is what you’ve all agreed to do, we will wait for your response. Please, you can reach us on our hotline listed on the form, or better yet, send us an email, and we will respond promptly,” the fair-skinned man said. They both stood up and prepared to leave.
I sat back down for a while, thinking deeply about how to solve this little problem of ours. Then it crossed my mind. We had a family friend in the tech business—Mr. Mico Wallace.

How had I forgotten about him? I quickly drafted an email outlining our current situation and suggested a business proposition that I knew he wouldn’t refuse. I picked up my phone and called my secretary. “Set a meeting with the board for the day after tomorrow,” I said with a confidence I didn’t even know I had.
Almost immediately, an email notification popped up on my desktop. I clicked on it. It was a response from Mr. Mico. He was willing to help in any way that would be beneficial to us, and he added that he was excited to hear the full business plan.
It was official. I had to prepare a pitch, and just like that, the cards were set.
Luna Vivienne and I walked into Mico’s Technology and Energy Reservation Company, located on the outskirts of town due to the nature of the experiments and work with strong matter and radioactive elements.
We were ushered into the conference room, where we were made to sit and wait for Mr. Mico’s arrival. The young lady who had greeted us served coffee and jelly doughnuts with sprinkles.
“Ugh! Sugar, how tacky,” my mother commented with disgust.
