Chapter 17:
“I’m very sorry, Father. We had to rescue someone. I already called the doctor and administered some trance books,” he said, his voice suddenly filled with concern. No sooner had the doctor arrived and the girl started responding to treatment than my son finally smiled again. I was surprised.
“Where did you find this girl?” I asked, a serious look of suspicion crossing my face. Although I trusted my son, I couldn’t vouch for the boys who followed him. What if they had all planned something to set him up? My mind raced with endless possibilities.
“Father, we found her almost lifeless in the woods, on our way back from the Moonlight pack. Some men tried to molest—or should I say, kill her,” he said, anger evident in his voice, as if he would see those men and kill them instantly.
I sighed heavily, looking at my son closely. I had watched Tristan grow up, and I knew what he was capable of and what he wasn’t. From the worry and grief in his expression, I could tell he was telling the truth.
“So, where is she now?” I asked, wanting to know the state of her health.
“She’s fine. The doctor is already attending to her. She’s in the visitors’ room,” he said, preparing to leave the room.
“My dear, don’t you know it’s already late? You need to take better care of yourself. At least the doctor is attending his treatments, so why worry p>
I asked, looking perturbed by my son’s sudden restlessness.
“I know, Father. I’m just worried because of the state I found her in. She’s lost a lot of blood. The doctor will do his best, anyway,” he said with a shrug, looking away as if searching for answers to questions only he could hear.
I had worked for several years to build my wealth, establishing Mico’s Technology and Energy Reservation Company. I thrived for many years, ensuring everything worked out so I could raise and give my son the best.
“How’s she feeling now?” I asked, coming downstairs after taking my bath.
“The doctor said she’s fast asleep,” he answered coldly.

“Of course, Father, I know… she’ll be fine. The doctor’s only concern is the blood she’s lost. It’s too much,” he said, looking troubled.
“Take a chill pill, she’ll be fine. I’ll check on her as soon as I’m done with my meal,” I said, taking a chunk of meat and savoring the succulent piece in my mouth.
I walked into her room as soon as I finished my meal. Following the doctor’s instructions, I made sure to be as quiet as possible, not wanting to wake her.
She was indeed as they had described—harmless as a dove, calm, and beautiful. The bandages and plasters on her face and neck made it clear that she had been targeted. They had obviously wanted her dead. I stared at her in awe, wondering what could have prompted such malicious intent.
There was something about the feeble girl lying on the bed, just opposite me. An invisible force seemed to pull me toward her. I felt it, I knew it. She had a kind of magnetic attraction that compelled people to be drawn to her by default.
I made my way to my room to sleep, but my thoughts kept shifting back to the girl under treatment.
