Amira’s POV
I slowly walked toward the woman, recognizing her as the one who had been in charge of the orphanage back then. Now, she was older. But how did she recognize me when she only saw me as a child? Maybe I hadn’t changed much since then.
“Miss Janice,” I called out after remembering her name, stepping closer.
“It’s Miss Janice,” she corrected, offering a mild smile. For a moment, she paused. This was the first time I had seen her smile at me, and it was a warm one.
If she had smiled like this a few years ago, I’m sure my heart would have fluttered, and I would have been filled with joy for a week. But now, I was a different Amira, one more matured than the girl I used to be.
“Oh… I had no idea,” I said, returning the smile. She had always corrected me about that, but I always made the mistake of calling her “Mrs p>
“Let’s go into my office,” she suggested, leading me into her spacious office. “I’m sure you have a lot of questions and things to say, and I would be happy to hear them p>
The orphanage was deserted, but she still had an office. She had always been a peculiar woman, and it seemed she still was.
“It’s good to see you again, Miss Janice, and I must admit, you’ve changed a lot,” I said, referring to her old age.
“I guess I have. And I’m sure this might be karma playing its games with me,” she replied, staring at me with tears at the corners of her eyes.
I remembered that time when I almost drank the water she had used to wash her feet, just because they thought I was cursed. They had treated me like an unwanted beast, growing up among others who seemed like wolves.
“By karma… what do you mean?” I asked, curious.
“I’m talking about the evil deeds I have done in the past, especially to you,” she said.

“I can also see that this place has changed a lot. It’s no longer the lively place it used to be, and there are no children here since I arrived,” I said, looking around her dusty office.
“If you had delayed your visit until tomorrow, you wouldn’t have found me here. I guess the moon goddess answered the wish of a sinner like me by allowing me to see you once again. It’s been my only wish for a long time. The building will be demolished tomorrow, and I will leave. But I’m glad you came,” she said.
“I guess it’s just development,” I replied, and she nodded in agreement.
“How have you been?” she suddenly asked after a few minutes of silence.
“I’ve been good, even better now. I’m happy, and I’m doing well for myself p>
