main system
Until now, I had believed it was either outsiders or the elders-those who had hated me for as long as I could remember- trying to sabotage us. Never, not even once, had I doubted my comrades, My people. Those who had stood beside me for years, fought with me, bled with me.
I slowly sat down, my cold aura spreading through the room like frost creeping over stone. Lorenzo sat across from me in silence, his posture rigid, his face as devastated as the situation demanded. One by one, the expressions of everyone else in the room shifted to mirror his.
“I can’t believe that,” one of the guards whispered, disappointment heavy in his voice. “Out of everyone, he decided to betray us p>
I leaned back into the couch, my gaze locked on the footage replaying again and again. Keane. I watched him hand the vial of poison to Alexander without hesitation. I watched Alexander collapse. I watched Keane turn and slaughter two more commanders who had been guarding the dungeon that night-men who had trusted him, men who had likely greeted him with respect moments before their deaths.
Then the footage shifted.
Roana stood there, frozen, devastation written all over her face. She collapsed into Keane’s arms, her body shaking. For a brief, foolish moment, a part of me hoped-hoped-that he would bring her here, that there was some explanation I had missed.
Instead, he turned away from the estate and headed straight toward the forest. The footage ended with the shadows swallowing them whole.

I had let him in seven years ago. He had been young, disciplined, and fierce, one of the most promising soldiers we had trained. He came from the southwest coast of my territory, his wolf strong, his instincts sharp. From the beginning, he had been reliable—silent when needed, relentless when ordered. That was why we allowed him to work close to us. That was why, three years ago, I chose him as my left-hand man.
Lorenzo and Keane. They were the only two who worked for me without question, without hesitation. I thought I had found men I could trust with my life, with my mate, with my kingdom.
Now I sat there, numb, watching Keane carry my Luna Queen away after murdering two of my strongest commanders.
I had trusted him.
And this was how he chose to repay me.
I had always known betrayal rarely came from strangers. It came from those you welcomed into your home, those you fed
at your table, those who learned your weaknesses because you allowed them close. I knew that.
But knowing it did nothing to dull the pain.
Before I could fully process it, something worse happened.
A frantic voice tore through the mind-link, sharp and panicked.
“Your Majesty, a man just walked into Miss Carolyn’s room. And she has a secret room that’s connected to the underground passages p>

“Think it’s Miss Carolyn who let those intruders enter our territory secretly p>
The accusation was heavy, dangerous.
“Be careful what you are saying,” I snapped. “That is a serious acusation p>
“I wouldn’t dare make it without reason,” the voice replied, trening, “Please come upstairs. We’re already gathering outside her room p>
I glanced at Lorenzo. He was still staring at the footage, fingers dying across the console as he searched for any clue we might have missed. I stood abruptly.
“Lorenzo,” I said sharply. “Come with me. We’re going to Carolyn’s room p>
“Carolyn’s?” He looked up, confused. “We still have two more footages to review p>
“Not now,” I replied. “I think we’re about to uncover the real truth. Very soon p>
Though confusion and concern clouded his face, Lorenzo didn’t argue. He stood and followed me.

As we moved through the corridors, the entire house felt colder, as if it sensed the storm brewing within me. The tension was thick, suffocating. Each step toward the stairs made my heart pound harder against my ribs, nausea curling in my stomach.
I couldn’t believe this. People I had considered family, people I had trusted without reservation, turning against me one by
one.
Reality had always been cruel, but tonight it felt merciless.
When we reached Carolyn’s floor, guards surrounded her door, their stances alert, hands hovering near their weapons.
“Is she inside?” I asked.
“Yes, Your Majesty,” one of them replied. “She believes we don’t know about the listening device installed in her room. Someone entered not long ago. They’re talking about something related to Lady Elle p>
My blood ran cold.
“Elle?” I whispered. “Let me hear it first p>
I took the listening device from the guard and pressed it to my ear, standing just outside her door. Lorenzo moved away, quietly questioning the guards. I could see his expression darken as he pieced things together, but my focus was entirely on the voices inside.
A man’s voice spoke, low and urgent.
“We can’t stay here much longer. Our master is ready to send the final message to Cassian. We’ve captured his mate. Sir Keane has successfully taken care of her. Now it’s time for you to come and attend the next game. Are you coming now? You’ve been surrounded by guards. Cassian no longer trusts you
My vision blurred for a second.
Then Carolyn laughed softly, the sound light, amused.
“Let him know,” she said calmly. “I wish I could see his face when he finally realizes it was me who sent Elle to the Northern
