Our warriors entered the desert soon, their footsteps muted by the sand but heavy with purpose. However, the moment we got closer to the dungeon, a strong metallic scent of blood slammed into my nostrils. My jaw tightened involuntarily as my breathing slowed. Cyrus snarled inside me, unsettled beneath my skin, his agitation spreading through my veins and forcing me to move closer even when instinct screamed caution.
Lorenzo was there, holding Candy’s rope loosely around her neck. His grip tightened when he noticed my stare. On the way here, Candy had suddenly appeared out of nowhere at the end of the southern borderline, as if she had been waiting for us there. She hadn’t panicked or fled. She simply stood, watching, eyes alert and knowing.
I knew Candy, Roana’s horse, was different. She understood Roana like she was a shifter herself, responding to her moods, her silence, her commands without words. But when we saw her standing there, ready to lead us here, it was confirmed that she was intelligent. No wonder Roana treated her like her own daughter. The realization pressed heavily against my chest.
The moment we got closer to the arena, Candy snarled, her body tensing violently before she rushed forward with her utmost speed. Sand sprayed beneath her hooves as she bolted, desperation and fury driving her forward.
“She might be there!” Lorenzo said, panic slipping into his voice as his head snapped toward me.
Our warriors spread across the desert immediately, surrounding the dungeon with practiced precision. The air shifted, thick with anticipation and restrained violence.
The scent of Roana hit me fast when we followed Candy. My breath stuttered before I could stop it. But her scent was mixed with other wolves’ scents, tangled and overwhelming. It felt nauseating, wrong in a way that made my stomach twist.
“I can track her scent on that side!” Cyrus howled inside my head, his voice sharp and urgent. “Let’s go p>
I shifted my weight, muscles coiling as I prepared to move-
Just as we were ready, a sharp voice rang out through a mic, slicing through the tension. “Welcome to my territory, Lycan King Cassian Wolfram p>
“Tyran Wolffian p>
My voice came out sharp and cold. I slowly lifted my gaze, finding him sitting above the arena with two girls draped over his lap, smirking down at me like this was a show meant for his amusement.
“The great Lycan King finally stepped into my territory,” he continued, his tone exaggerated. “I should welcome you with my utmost respect. But-!” He rubbed the woman’s back lazily, smirking wider. “I have zero to no respect for a monster like you p>
“Where is Roana?” That was my first response to his stupid sarcasm. My voice cut through the air like a blade.
“Who?” He asked, knitting his brow theatrically. “I don’t know anyone p>
“Bullshit. Where is she, Keane?” My eyes moved past him, locking onto Keane, who stood behind him. I didn’t blink.
Keane flinched. His shoulders twitched, and his gaze dropped for a fraction of a second before he looked away. My jaw tightened further.
“You are really a disappointment, Keane,” I said slowly. “I thought I gave you my loyalty and trust. Is this how you bite King’s back p>
Lorenzo snarled from behind me, stepping forward. “We protected you p>
your
“I was just a spy,” Keane replied shamelessly, lifting his chin. “Everything was part of the plan. I don’t owe you anything p>

“Stop being a coward, Keane,” I said, my voice dropping dangerously low. “Where is Roana? I know you brought her here p>
“Wow!” Tyran clapped his hands loudly, clearly enjoying himself “What a love for your Luna! And what about the woman who is still waiting for you, Lycan King?” His grin widened. “Are you going to take her home p>
My eyes widened slightly before I could control it when I realized I had forgotten about Elle. A flash of guilt passed through me. Carolyn had told me something about Elle, something that ever fully made sense, but now wasn’t the time.
“We will take everyone home,” I said firmly. “Everyone who belongs to the southern region. Stop acting all mighty. Your arrogance and stupidity will end today p>
Tyran hissed as he stood up, his chair scraping loudly. “Stupidity Come on, Cassian. I’ve been keeping your woman here. Don’t provoke me p>
“Well, I don’t think you have the strength to keep my woman here,” I replied calmly. “The scene before me is telling me the truth p>
I glanced toward the arena. Bodies were scattered across the ground, blood soaked into the sand. The faint scent of my mate lingered in the air. She didn’t die, She killed.
Tyran’s face turned a bright shade of red. “Who told you your Luna killed them?” he snarled. “I killed them p>
“Come on,” I scoffed. “Everyone knows how pathetic you are p>
Anger bubbled violently inside him as he roared, “You bastard! You never told me she was a Mortia p>
“See,” I said coldly. “You are stupid. Why would I tell you that my Luna is a Mortia? Also… it seems your kingdom is too weak to win against my Luna. Of course, she is the strongest she-wolf
“Don’t provoke me, Cassian,” Tyran roared, turning sharply toward Marco. “Because today, it will be me who wins this game. Bring them here. Now p>
Marco, his right-hand man, looked hesitant, his jaw tightening, but he obeyed quietly.
I stayed still, my body rigid as I tried to understand what he had ordered. Then a deep rumble echoed behind the arena. A huge truck appeared slowly, its presence ominous.
There they were.
Roana and Elle were tied with ropes. Roana’s entire body was injured, almost unrecognizable, blood streaking her skin. My chest constricted painfully. But Elle-she was heavily pregnant, her body bound in the same position as Roana’s. He didn’t even excuse the pregnant woman. Her entire body was full of blood, dripping off her skin. I couldn’t get close to them. But the scent itself felt like a cruel joke.
“What the hell?” Lorenzo shrieked.
I stayed frozen, unable to breathe, unable to think, the darkness inside me stretching and sharpening as Tyran’s cruelty revealed itself fully.
