Althea, she broke into a wide smile and immediately opened her arms. Grace trotted over and hugged her tightly.
“Isn’t the water colder in the morning?” Althea asked as she gently stroked her daughter’s still half-damp hair.
“A little,” Grace replied with a laugh. “But I like it p>
Josh smiled too, the tension on his face gradually easing. “You swam for a long time p>
“Because I want to beat my time from yesterday,” Grace said proudly. “When I can go back to school, Miss Spencer said there’ll be an inter-class competition. I can’t waste time, right p>
“You’re right.” Josh affectionately patted Grace’s head.
“You’d better dry off soon. Mommy will make breakfast. Is there anything you want p>
Grace immediately shook her head. “Whatever Mommy cooks, I’ll eat it p>
Josh scoffed. “Except broccoli. You always push it aside whenever Mom serves it p>
“Except broccoli,” Grace corrected with a wide grin. “Okay then, I’ll go to my room first p>
“Come along, Miss Grace. I’ve prepared a change of clothes for you p>
“Thank you, Octa. You’re so kind. Even though I could do it myself p>
Grace kept chatting as she walked toward her room, her voice trailing down the corridor. It made Althea feel noticeably lighter. There was an old saying-if laughter still lived in a house, then whatever problems arose could eventually be overcome.
And that was exactly how Althea felt in that moment.
The three of them sat together in the pavilion’s living room. Grace launched into a long story about the pool, the competition she would eventually join, and her next training plans. She even talked about the school play, where she had been cast as the narrator, the storyteller.
Althea listened attentively, occasionally interjecting with light questions. Josh chimed in too, letting out small laughs at certain parts. At times, he shared updates about his own training in preparation for his upcoming match. Even though Josh wasn’t attending school now, he was keeping up with physical training and strategies for the competition.
There were still two months left before the official match.
“Mom, when do you think I can go back to school?” Josh asked, his hand absentmindedly turning a cube again.

Felicia’s voice came through hurriedly from the very first second. “Althea, I’m sorry I’m only calling now. How are you? Josh and Grace-are they okay p>
Althea smiled faintly. She gestured for Josh to take his sister and play for a while. Then she moved a short distance away, choosing to speak where the children couldn’t hear.
