The Miller family dining room was bustling with activity as the staff prepared dinner.
When Eli came down from the second floor, a strange awkwardness settled in her chest-an uneasy question she couldn’t quite silence: Was she still welcome here or not?
Doubt weighed on every step she took, but Eli forced herself to stay calm. She couldn’t hide in her room forever. Besides, this wasn’t her family’s house. She didn’t have the same freedom she once thought she
had.
The large chandelier in the center of the room cast a warm glow over the long dining table, which had already been carefully arranged when she stepped into the living area. The aroma of dinner filled the air- creamy corn soup, roasted chicken, salad drizzled with sesame oil, and mashed potatoes freshly placed on the table by the servants.
Eli paused at the doorway.
Her heart thumped quietly in her chest. For a moment, she hesitated, unsure whether she should walk in now or wait a little longer. But
efore she could decide, Grace spotted her first.
“Eli!” the little girl called out cheerfully.

“You’re finally here!” she exclaimed, grabbing Eli’s hand. “I thought you were sick p>
Eli blinked in surprise at the enthusiastic welcome. But without realizing it, a small smile appeared on
her face.
“I just felt tired today,” she replied softly. There was no way she could admit she had spent the entire day crying in her room before falling asleep from exhaustion.
Josh, who was sitting at the table, turned around as well. Relief flickered across his face.
“Good thing you came down,” he said.
“Why?” Eli asked, confused. She looked at him curiously. It wasn’t like Josh seeking her out. Had she done something wrong?
“I really need your help p>
Eli frowned slightly, “Help with what p>
“Physics,” Josh answered quickly. “Do you have time tomorrow? I don’t understand the part about angular acceleration. The formulas are making my head spin p>
Grace nodded emphatically. “Josh is terrible with numbers p>
“Be quiet,” Josh shot back, though there was no real anger in his voice.

Eli stared at them, surprised-and then she let out a small laugh. For the first time since morning, the atmosphere around her felt light.
“Alright,” Eli said finally. “I’ll try to help as much as I can p>
Josh immediately looked more relaxed. “Good. I’ll get my books ready tomorrow p>
At the far end of the table, Riana had been watching everything quietly.
She had felt relieved when Gia informed her that Eli would be joining dinner. And seeing Eli now-looking
far more composed, even though her eyes were still swollen-eased her worries a little.
Althea had been right. The girl must have cried a lot today.
“Good evening, GrandMom,” Eli greeted politely.
Riana smiled warmly. “Come sit down. The head maid will serve the main course shortly p>
Eli lowered her head again. “I’m sorry I didn’t help prepare dinner. I usually help in the kitchen p>
Riana clicked her tongue light
Eli’s head dipped even lower.
“Did I ask you to do that p>
“You don’t need to think about that, Eli,” Riana said gently. “Your rest is far more important p>
“Thank you, GrandMom,” Eli replied softly.
“Come, sit p>
“Yes, GrandMom p>
Eli took a seat beside Grace, across from Josh. Every now and then she answered the little girl’s endless
questions.
Riana studied her face carefully. “How are you feeling now, Eli p>
Eli turned toward her, giving her full attention. “I’m better,” she said.
Then she added quietly, “I’m sorry for making you worry p>
Riana slowly shook her head. “You don’t need to apologize p>
“What your grandmother said is true, Eli. You don’t need to feel burdened by any of this p>
This time, it was Nathan who spoke.
Eli immediately shifted her gaze toward him. She met his eyes for a moment, then nodded quietly, accepting his words. Not long after, Felicia walked into the dining room carrying a thin stack of documents.
“Sorry I’m late,” she said casually. “There were a few things I needed to finish p>

“You mentioned Kalina wouldn’t be visiting SunCity after all?” Riana asked.
“No, Mrs. Riana. Probably next month instead. But I had an early flight this morning, so I ended up coming home earlier than expected p>
“Your business schedule is very busy. Don’t forget to take care of your health, Felicia,” Riana reminded
her with gentle concern.
“Thank you, Mrs. Riana. I’ll remember that.” Felicia leaned down and placed a quick kiss on Riana’s cheek. “Let me put my things away first. Then I’ll join you for dinner p>
“Of course. Just don’t stay in your room too long p>
Felicia laughed lightly.
A few minutes later, Chris appeared from the hallway.
“Looks like I arrived just in time,” he said, pulling out a chair as he sat down. “But where is everyone
else p>
