Chapter 16:
I throw on my Saint Laurent blue spring collection shirt, adjusting the short sleeves around my biceps. I’m already wearing plain black jeans, and a pair of white Nike sneakers won’t hurt to finish the look. Besides, looking good is part of this billionaire lifestyle—a lifestyle that, to be honest, is starting to feel boring.
Especially when I can’t have the one thing I want to be completely happy.
I rummage through my small travel bag, checking that my personal essentials and hygiene kit are packed. These hangouts always end in a sleepover. I don’t know if it’s because they usually happen on weekends, but the truth is, they always end with us watching more and more movies we never planned on, until suddenly it’s already past midnight.
And sometimes, especially recently, I truly miss the simple joy of sleeping over somewhere that isn’t my own place.
I love my big house, but being alone in it these past weeks hasn’t helped me silence my painful feelings and constant thoughts of Isla. They’ve only grown stronger, harder, more painful each day. And believe me, I’d give anything to make them stop.
But at the same time, I don’t think you should take my word seriously. Because honestly, deep down, I don’t want these feelings to stop.
I want Isla. And I know, with absolute certainty, she is the only girl I will ever want. Forever.
It may sound sweet and cheesy, but it’s also fucking hard. She’s the only person my mind drifts to before I fall asleep. She’s the only girl I dream about every single night. She’s also the first image that fills my head the moment I wake up in the morning, and like that, my cycle of lovesick torment goes on and on and on. It never seems to end.
I sigh and grab the bag from my bed before picking up my car keys from the table. I leave my room and shut the door behind me.
When I get to the living room, I turn off the lights and electrical appliances. You might be wondering if I have servants or drivers, but to clarify, I don’t. I love solitude, and sometimes it feels strange having other people do simple things I can do myself.
However, whenever I’m too busy or overwhelmed with work, Matthew, my personal housekeeper, takes care of everything. He does his job well, and I could never ask for a better man for it.
Once I’m done turning off the rest of the appliances, I step out of the house and head to my car. I place my travel bag in the backseat and sit behind the wheel. Before starting the engine, I pause, my mind running through endless choices.
Should I go? Or should I tell them I can’t make it? What if this hangout feels completely different with Dominic there? Can I stand seeing him with Isla? Is he worth lying to my friends over?
That last question makes up my mind for me. I start the car, letting it warm up before pulling out of the driveway. I make a small turn, and within seconds, I’m on the road.
