He grabs me by the waist and pulls me against his chest. “Can I ask you something p>
My head turns to mush with his warmth seeping into my skin, and I know in this moment there’s no way I can say no to him, even if I wanted to.
“What is it?” I ask.
“Can you spend the night with me?” His hand comes up to tuck my hair behind my ear. “Maybe for today p>
My breath hitches, my head spinning with a thousand wild thoughts and imaginings.
Isla, get it together. He wants you to stay the night.
“Alright,” I croak, clearing my throat. “But I’ll only stay if I find something to eat p>
“there’s pizza and milk in the fridge p>
“And some comfy, light clothes to change into p>
“I’ll give you mine p>
“I also don’t have my shower kit with me p>
“I’ll give you mine too p>
I groan. “I can’t use your soap or cream, Asher. What if they’re harsh on my skin p>
“Wait, you use Skinceuticals, right?” He runs his fingers through his hair. “my cousin Jennie left her kit with some of her Skinceuticals soap and cream in the guest room the last time she came p>
My mouth drops open, completely thrown off guard by his knowledge of the skincare brand I use.
“Just how much do you know about me, Asher Kane p>
He smiles. “I don’t know. Maybe I know… everything p>
I smile back, shaking my head.
He grabs my hand. “We better settle your hungry stomach p>
I laugh, letting him lead me to the kitchen.
When we get there, he heads straight to the fridge and pulls out the pizza and a jar of milk. I reach to take the pizza from him, but he refuses.
“Relax. Let me heat it up for you in the microwave p>
“Aw, that’s so sweet,” I tease, hopping onto the marble countertop.
Asher turns his head toward me, clearly catching the taunt in my voice. “I’m only doing this for you because I love you, Isla. If not p>

I stick out my tongue at him, making him shake his head. My stomach growls again, and he laughs.
“Wipe that smile off your face, Asher, or you’ll end up being my meal tonight p>
“I’m already a street food,” he shrugs. “Guess I’m not surprised p>
I laugh, watching as he places the pizza into the microwave. He sets the timer and presses Start.
While it warms, he pours the milk into a saucepan and sets it on the stove. A few minutes later, he turns off the burner and fills two mugs from the pan.
He carries the empty saucepan to the sink, rolling up his sleeves to wash it. I hop down from the counter.
“Asher, let me wash it,” I say, reaching for the pan.
“No, Isla. I told you to relax p>

Our back-and-forth is cut short when the microwave timer beeps, pulling both our attention.
