Chapter 70
(TYLER)
The waiting room is swamped with patients. I notice other several pregnant omegas further along than me. Mortus’ clinic reeks of desperation. I’m too antsy to sit, so I stand. The few available seats are stained and look disgusting.
The receptionist looks like she hates her job because of how she scowls and cusses under her breath every time the phone rings. I don’t feel safe here and part of me is tempting me to leave, but then, zi can’t. The only way I’m leaving here is without this baby in my stomach.
Even though the sign outside says clinic, it feels more like a morgue in here.
I wouldn’t have come here if Sasha hadn’t brought up the subject of keeping this baby. He made me do this. I was scared that he’d change his mind about Dr. Nicholas performing the procedure. I’d be stuck with Angelo’s child forever. Even if I could handle the thought of raising this child with Sasha, I cannot live with the fear of discovering who the child’s father is hanging over my head for the rest of my life.
An older omega opens a door that leads to the back room. I hear a piercing scream and sob through the door. Fear grips me in a chokehold as I eye the exit. This place fills me with dread and I have a bad feeling about it. The more time I spend here, the more I regret my decision to even come here in the first place. He calls a name, and one of the pregnant female omegas gets up.
She looks terrified. Granted, she had a good reason to be scared. I’m certain she heard the scream just as I did. She walks past me and I inch backwards towards the door.
The receptionist notices me and he scowls. “Where are you going p>
“I need some air.” I meet her gaze and uneasiness shifts through me.
“Just know that once you leave, we offer no refunds. You will not get your items back p>
“I just want to get some fresh air. I’m not leaving p>
I traded Sasha’s cufflinks for the procedure, but I’m sure they’re worth far more than a shoddy procedure like this would cost. Mortus said he wanted both the cufflinks. I feel guilty for stealing them from Sasha. I fear that I could break his trust when he learns of it. I don’t like the idea.
I push the door and lean against a wall nearby. The liquor store next door is swamped with alphas smoking, drinking beer and laughing hysterically. I wonder what could be that funny. I watch them, feeling totally disconnected from their world.
My instincts keep telling me to run back to Sasha. How I wish that me and him could just have our happily ever after. But as it seems, happiness is something that I’ll never get to experience wholly.
I suck in a heavy breath, feeling the warmth of the sun on my face as I cup my stomach. I feel depressed. Ever since I learnt about this pregnancy, I’ve been wanting to get this child out. But today, Sasha suggested that we raise it together and something changed. If only he knew he offered to raise Angelo’s child… he’d never make such a suggestion if he knew the truth.
“You have a lighter?” a gravelly voice asks.
I open my eyes and find a burly alpha standing before me. His gaze looks predatory, more like a snake. “I don’t smoke p>
“Well, that’s a shame p>
I watch him tug out a lighter and he lights the cigarette. I frown, wondering why he would ask me for a lighter when he had one all along.
“What’s your name?” he lights the cigarette and blows the smoke arrogantly to my face. The smell of the smoke along with his stinky garlic breath makes me want to puke.
I cough as I wave the smoke away. “Do you mind p>
His features harden. “I asked for your name.” his lips curve into a not-so-friendly smile.
“My name isn’t your business p>
The smile disappears and his ugly predatory eyes flicker. “You’re mouthy just as I heard.” He says, blowing more smoke in my face.
“Can you stop doing that?” I cough, waving the smoke away.
“Why would I?” he asks arrogantly. “I think it’s funny p>
“It isn’t funny. It’s rude.” I blurt out. “Can you just go smoke somewhere else p>
He shakes his head. “Nope. I don’t want to p>
“Alright then,” I begin to walk inside the clinic but he grabs my arm firmly.
“Uhm…no. You aren’t going back into that slaughterhouse. We prefer you alive and in one piece p>
I try to yank my hand away but his grip is far too firm. I scowl. “Who’s we? We who p>
“Someone who wouldn’t prefer you walk back into that death trap. Let’s just assume that for now.” He says, pulling my arm toward a black van that pulls up nearby. “Come on, Tyler. Don’t make this any harder than it is supposed to be p>
I’m freaked out, and my heart wants to jump straight out of my chest. I struggle to free myself. “What are you doing? I’m not going anywhere with you p>
“Yes, you’re coming with me,” he says, flipping open his jacket and I catch sight of what looks like a pistol shining in the sunlight.
Terror slithers through me. “Did Sasha send you p>
“No p>
“Then I’m not going anywhere with you p>
He lets out a hoarse annoying laugh. “Well then, in that case, Sasha sent me p>
“What do you think I am? Two? I’m not that dumb p>
His brows narrow as he gazes at me. “Alright, let me break it down for you, okay? You are Sasha Adonis’ omega, head of the Triple Triad syndicates, yet here you are alone without any security detail? That’s really dumb if you ask me p>
“Fuck you,” I yell, twisting my arm free of his grip to no avail.
“If I had more time, I would.” He says, dragging me towards the car.
I throw him a kick on the leg and he turns to me. “That’s not very nice, Tyler. Is it p>
“Leave me alone, I’m not going anywhere with you p>
“Oh yes, you are.” He smirks. The cigarette bobs up and down his lips as he speaks.
“Whoever you are, you must know Sasha won’t like you touching me like this p>
“Mmh…I’m sure he won’t p>
“Then let go of me” I hiss hoping that he buys my aggression and leaves me alone. He still doesn’t. Instead, he twists my arm around my back.
“Tyler, you’re leverage. You aren’t going anywhere p>
“Let me go.” I hiss, using the last of my efforts to try to free myself, but the man is relentless.
“No way. See, my boss wants some things, but he can’t get your sweetheart to do as he wants. We are pretty sure having you as our company will help negotiate well with Sasha p>
“I’m not your poker chip,” I say, schooling my face to try and not look so scared when in reality, I could piss myself now. I didn’t think being here would put me in danger’s way. I didn’t even think that anyone would recognize me. Guess what?
“I don’t wanna be rough with you, but if you force me to, I will.” He studies me closely. “Can you stop fighting and come with me p>
I struggle some more. “I’m not trying to make things easy for you here, mister p>
He twists my arm and I cry out in pain. “You’ll only hurt yourself p>
I kick him again, but he seems ready for it. Another alpha emerges out of the van to assist him with me. I scream for help, but none of the guys around pay attention.
“Shhh kid, this will help you relax.” The other alpha says then jabs a needle in my neck.
“The first alpha smiles at me, but I can’t see him well because his face is blurry now. “Sleep tight, Tyler.” He says, blowing more smoke into my face.
