Irvin looked more tired than he did this morning. He was still weating the same suit from the press conference. Yet, instead of looking noble and aloof, he looked worn out and impatient.
He tugged on his already fully loosened tie and said, “I believe Mr. Stern has informed you of the current situation outside this place and how serious it is, Emilia.”
“Yes. ” My reply was calm and indifferent. He clearly didn’t expect me to behave this way at this point.
“ What are you thinking, Emilia?” he blurted. “Do you truly understand the severity of the situation right now? Even if you were to publicly apologize to Lianie now, It’s already too late! Do you even understand this! ”
“Yup,” I responded with a single word.
It made him so furious. He slammed his hand on the table so hard thought he might break it.
I didn’t understand why he was angry. “Isn’t this what you wanted?” I asked curiously.
He was taken aback. “How is this something I wanted?” he quickly retorted.
“Didn’t you tell the reporters that I was jealous of Julianne and unable to stand seeing her happy?” I shot back. “Didn’t you say I manipulated you into falling for me, just so I could be the third party who came between you two?”
“You also told them I drugged Julianne,” I continued. “And I’m quite sure you also said I had allowed your father to assault her so she could never be with you. Isn’t there so much public outcry right now because of everything you said?
“You must have said all those things to destroy me. So why are you so upset when you’ve gotten what you wanted?” I was genuinely curious about what he was thinking.
Irvin opened his mouth and wanted to refute me. However, it appeared he didn’t know what to say. At this point, the current situation was indeed tied to what he had confirmed to the reporters.
Yet, he said, “I never wanted to destroy you! All I’ve ever wanted is for you to be happy, Emi!” He ruffled his hair in frustration.
I scoffed at his words. He didn’t wish me dead, yet he chose to let me die time and time again. He didn’t want to destroy me, yet he said the very things that would do just that without hesitation.
Seeing my reaction only agitated him even more.
“I know what I said to the public was hurtful, Emi, and I know it has made the situation worse. But they were all true!” he insisted, continuing to defend himself.
“Lianne has already suffered enough,” he added. “She’s already been victimized once. We couldn’t let her face that kind of online abuse again. No matter how much I love you, I can’t protect you right now. You deserve what’s happening to you for the mistake you’ve made.”
I was going through a life–shattering event when Julianne returned. Yet, he still chose to upset me, Then, he forced me to tolerate the current situation, which was already aggravating enough. But I wasn’t going to allow him to continue wronging me any longer.
His words infuriated me.
“What do you mean I deserve this?” I snapped. “What did I do wrong? When was I ever the third party that came between you and Julianne? Weren’t you the one who made a big show of chasing me for a whole year?”
My anger surged, and I began to rant. “You think I drugged Julianne because I was jealous of her? Because I was afraid she would steal you away from me? What is there for me to be jealous of? Her SAT scores?
“And why would I be afraid of her stealing you away from me? Don’t make me sick! When I found out you had something going on with her, my first thought was to break up with you! I’m utterly grossed out by anyone who’s had a relationship with her !

I was disgusted.
