My gaze darkened. “Mr. Walker.”
“Yes, Mrs. Sawyer?”
Although his tone was respectful, the contempt in his eyes displeased me.
“You’re fired. I’ll have HR arrange compensation for you. Go pack your things and leave.”
I should feel lucky that even though I had made the mistake of leaving the academic path I loved for Irvin, I hadn’t completely lost my mind.
After investing everything into Irvin, I didn’t walk away empty–handed. When the company became publicly listed, I secured shares second only to Irvin’s.
As the second–largest shareholder of the company, I had the authority to fire someone.
In my journal, I had recorded numerous instances where Mr. Walker had humiliated me, and I was certain that a third of my emotional pain came from him.
He was an employee who not only failed to respect the boss but actively belittled and manipulated me. Keeping him around would be absurd.
Mr. Walker’s eyes widened in shock. “What?”
“You heard me. You’re fired.”
“Mrs. Sawyer, did you hit your head when you fell into the pond last night?”
He was Irvin’s most trusted assistant!
I ignored him and called Irvin. “Fire your assistant immediately, or I’ll sell all my shares to your competition.”
“What now?” Irvin’s voice was impatient, likely preoccupied with Julianne’s situation.
“He disrespected me. I don’t want to see him again. Listen to the audio I just sent you, and give me an answer in three minutes.”
I hung up without waiting for him to reply.
Irvin rubbed his temples, annoyed and not fully understanding the escalation from me. Nonetheless, he listened to the audio I sent.
From the moment Mr. Walker showed up, I had started recording. Every disrespectful word of his, especially the comment he made under his breath, was captured clearly.
Irvin’s expression darkened instantly.
He wasn’t particularly fond of me, but after what he had publicly declared at Grandma’s birthday celebration last night, his close assistant’s disrespectful behavior now felt like å slap in the face.
Needless to say, he was furious.
After scolding Mr. Walker over the phone, he called me back. Before he could say anything, I cut him off. “Fire him. This isn’t a discussion.”
Irvin fell silent for a moment. “Fine.”
Soon after, Mr. Walker’s phone rang. It was likely Irvin informing him of his firing. His face drained of cor, and

once the call ended, he looked at me without his usual arro ance.
“ Mrs. Sawyer , I was wrong . I apologize . Please, don’t let Me Sawyer fire me. I have a family to support . If I lose this job , my whole family will be in trouble!”
I stared at him coldly. “ What does that have to do with me?
Did he ever consider his family when he belittled me so arrogantly?
Besides, after all these years working with Irvin, he had surely accumulated enough wealth to not worry about survival.
“Mrs. Sawyer, I’m truly sorry-”
Before he could finish, I turned and walked away.
If apologizing could solve everything, then what would be the point of law enforcement?
Last night, after Shaun had taken me to the hospital, he hadn’t left right away. He’d waited until I had completed all the tests, and only after the results came back did he leave.
