you really think you have the right to sit here and apologize to me?” I shot back.
Irvin’s face turned pale at my words. It was almost unbearable to look at him.
His mouth fell open as though he wanted to say something However, his lips merely trembled for a long time– he couldn’t form any words.
Sure, he might never have intended to harm me. Yet, time and time again, I had nearly died because of him.
Irvin let out a self–deprecating laugh. His eyes looked craze. Never before had he felt more deserving of death than in this moment.
Regardless of how helpless he had felt then, he should have never put me in such danger. He truly didn’t deserve to live.
He was so overcome with pain and guilt that he looked utterly shattered and broken.
If this was the old me, I would have been so heartbroken that I wouldn’t be able to resist forgiving him. However, the current me merely sneered at the state he was in.
Irvin’s remorse had come too late, so it was worthless. It was like crying over someone’s grave when they were already gone.
He couldn’t claim to love me when he had waited until now to beat himself up over what he had done. Honestly, his behavior was just sickening, and I didn’t want to spend another second talking to someone like him.
“If apologizing is all you have to say to me, then let’s not waste any more time. We should just call our lawyers in so we can move on with discussing our divorce.”
I expected Irvin to fight me on this again.
But surprisingly, he replied, “Okay.”
I was taken aback by how readily he responded, but I couldn’t care less about his thoughts. So, I quickly called Mark into the room and Irvin’s lawyer followed behind him.
Mark looked very serious this time, especially now that we had the evidence Noah’s uncle had uncovered. He was certain there wouldn’t be any issues this round.
However, there was one question he needed an answer to.
“Please clarify this clause, Mr. Sawyer. It states that you’ll be the company’s CEO and that you cannot be removed from the position,” Mark requested as he pointed to the last line in the shares transfer document.
Irvin didn’t answer Mark.
Instead, he looked at me and said, “I know you’re preparing for your grad school entrance exams, Emi. I also know you plan to return to the academic field you love.
“You’ll need someone to run the company so you can focus on your research, and I want to be that person. I will be that person for the rest of my life to atone for what I have done.”
It was the only thing Irvin could do for me now, after all. He would become my biggest pillar of support to atone for his sins. And he was going to build a business empire for me to ensure that I would have no worries for the rest of my life.

Before I could respond, Irvin quickly added, “You know you’ll need a lot of funding to conduct research. And I know I can ensure you’ll have an endless flow, so you’ll never have to worry about money ever again.”
It seemed he was genuinely sincere. Besides, he wouldn’t need to transfer his shares to me if he was planning on sabotaging the company.
It was just one clause. All I had to do was agree to it. Then, could collect our divorce certificate right away, and this would finally be over. It was all too tempting!
I exchanged a glance with Mark. He nodded in confirmation that there were no other issues with this contract. I was about to sign it when Julianne barged in.
