I couldn’t help feeling the corpse before us wasn’t Julianne’s. I believed she had faked her death and that Irvin had helped her do so.
Hence, when I saw how red and swollen his eyes were, I sneered. He was putting up such a good act.
Irvin seemed to know the reason behind my sneer. However, he wasn’t comfortable speaking while the police were still present. Thus, he didn’t say anything to me and instead turned to my parents.
“Henry, Catherine, please don’t be like this. It’s not Emi’s fault. It was just an accident…” Irvin teared up when he mentioned the last part.
“Accident? Impossible!” Mom exclaimed. “This wasn’t an accident! It’s that bitch’s fault that Lianne is dead. It was Emilia-”
An idea seemed to come to her mind as she spoke because in the next second, she grabbed onto one of the officers and pointed at me.
“That’s right–It was her. She did it! Getting Lianne imprisoned wasn’t enough for her–she wanted her dead too! So when she heard Lianne was receiving treatment in a hospital outside of the detention center, she seized the chance to kill her! She caused the explosion that led to a fire!
“So seize her, officers! You have to arrest her! She’s the culprit! That bitch hated Lianne so much and had motive to kill her! So, please arrest her! Arrest this murderer!” Mom screamed.
Before the police could say anything, Jeremy wrenched Mom’s hand away.
“That’s enough, Mom! I know you’re upset over Lianne’s death, but you can’t falsely accuse Emi like this!” he
scolded.
“I’m not-”
“Enough, Mom!”
Mom cared deeply for Julianne and was losing her mind because of her sudden death. That being said, her most beloved child, Jeremy, was silencing her. Hence, she didn’t dare continue to shout or claim I was a murderer. She could only glare fiercely at me.
Jeremy also looked at me exasperatedly.
“Please don’t stoop to Mom’s level, Emi. You know she’s only acting this way because she’s devastated right now, ” he implored.
I didn’t respond and merely stared at the corpse in front of me. I then instructed Mark and the forensic experts to
examine it.
Irvin became more certain of his suspicions when he saw the way I was behaving. Pulling me to a quiet corner, he asked, “You’re thinking that corpse isn’t Lianne’s and that I helped her fake her death, aren’t you?”
I smiled coldly at him but didn’t answer.
At the sight of this, Irvin anxiously said, “I didn’t, Emi! I saw how hateful your gaze was in court regret helping Lianne. I decided then that I’d rather be labelled an ingrate than help her, let alone ..elp her fake her death! I really didn’t have anything to do with this! I wouldn’t be feeling so terrible if I did!”

Irvin sounded genuine. It really seemed like he didn’t help lianne fake her death. Regardless, I didn’t believe him at all. I still had my people continue investigating.
However, my suspicions weren’t confirmed.
My people and the police examined the corpse’s height, age, blood type, and physical characteristics. Both parties reached the same conclusion–the person who died was indeed Julianne!
However, I still couldn’t accept it even though the evidence was right before me. I just couldn’t accept that she was dead no matter how hard I tried!
I didn’t have an explanation–all I had was a gut feeling. After all, how could she just die like this?
Irvin was both happy and pained by the confirmation. He was happy because it had proven he hadn’t helped Julianne fake her death. However, that also meant she was truly dead, which pained him.
Julianne might have done many wrongs, but she was still the person he had grown up with and also his savior.
