Cordella obliviously threw her arms around Noah’s neck while he was lost in thought.
“ What are you daydreaming about, Noah? It’s time to board the plane!” she said.

She was eager to hit the beach after reading travel blogs the previous night. However, while others read travel blogs to know where the scenic spots are, the blogs she read were on where to find handsome guys. Hence, her eagerness to hit the beach was fueled by the rumor of Daiti being full of chiseled studs.
The flight from Claudeville to Daiti was about ten hours long. We all slept soundly during the long flight, so we weren’t tired when we landed.
We changed into our beachwear upon arriving at the hotel.
Cordelia was about to lead us to the beach when Noah received a call. It seemed something had happened at home, and he had to head back.
She was about to say the Lowell household was fine but then realized he was referring to his birth family–the Ashfords. It had to be serious given how he needed to leave right away.
We quickly helped Noah pack his luggage and book his flight so he could hurry home. Just like that, he was gone.
He had taken a ten–hour flight to Daiti and hadn’t even had any fun yet. But now , he was boarding the next available flight because he had to leave.
Cordelia was so worried for him that she lost the mood to flirt with handsome men. We ended up staying in the hotel the entire day. Then, Noah called after lunch and told us it wasn’t anything too serious.
With her mind finally at ease, she grabbed me and said we were attending the hotel’s bonfire tonight.
I heard these events were usually full of good–looking guys. And now that my worries had also been eased, I too was in the mood for some fun. So, I changed and followed her to the party.
Our villa was located in a remote part of the island because Grandma preferred quieter environments. So, we had to walk along the beach to reach the party’s location.
Halfway there, Cordelia realized she had forgotten something important and ran back. She told me to wait for her where I was and that she would be back soon. Then, she disappeared in a flash.
I was about to pull my phone out to kill time, but then I remembered I didn’t have it with me. My dress didn’t have any pockets, so my phone was in Cordelia’s bag. And she was long gone by now, so it was pointless to yell for her. So, I decided to sit on the beach and admire the sunset.
Daiti truly deserved to be called the queen of islands.

The sea was still incredibly breathtaking even without the sunlight reflecting off the deep blue water. Plus, the temperature was pleasant too. While I didn’t particularly enjoy being near water, I couldn’t resist the urge to wade in it.
So, I took off my shoes and then stood back up. Just as I was about to walk toward the water, I noticed something moving further out in the sea. Furrowing my brow, I instinctively squinted to see what it was.
I was startled when I realized what I was looking at–the moving thing looked like a human! I refi ely ran to the water’s edge. Now that I was closer, I was sure it was a person!
A man had been caught in the tide and was struggling. Each time he got closer to the shore, a wave would crash

down on him and pull him further back out. He was trapped in this repetitive cycle .
My immediate reaction was to shout for help, but there wasn’t anyone around.

The hotel’s villa area was known for being quiet and free from disturbance. I had seen this as a plus, so I chose this hotel for our accommodation. Who would have thought it wouldn’t be working in my favor now?
I knew I couldn’t run back to the hotel to get help the man would probably be dead by the time I returned.
Subconsciously, I tightened my grip on my dress.
