Now, the shares were the first thing that Dad thought of. He was so eager to get that 10% share for Julianne.
It was as if the 10%, which was worth billions, were nothing more than 10 dollars that he could take from me effortlessly.
I didn’t know when I gave them the idea that my money was free for them to take.
Even though Julianne’s expression remained unchanged, I saw her clutching her blanket with barely concealed excitement.
I’d thought that she had pushed me into the pond in the spur of the moment, driven by her anger. It seemed like I had been too naive.
If this was premeditated, that meant that she would’ve found another way to lure me to the pond one way or another if I hadn’t gone near it yesterday.
She might even orchestrate something else to make it look like I had harmed her, and then use the opportunity to make my parents force me to give the shares to her.
She was the one who wanted me dead, but she managed to make it look like it was the other way round.
This way, she could achieve several things. I would be humiliated, which would make it easy for her to get my shares. I would completely give up on Irvin, and he would think that I was evil even more than he already did.
Julianne was good. Two birds with one stone wasn’t enough; she wanted to hit four birds with
one stone.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t about to play along.
I sighed helplessly. “I don’t think I can get the shares for you. Grandma thinks I’m love- obsessed, so she thinks that giving me shares to Quillcrest Pharmaceuticals is equivalent to giving them to Irvin.
“And since Irvin treats me horribly, the shares would pretty much go to waste. She doesn’t want to give them to me , much less let me give them to precious little Lianne.”
“Actually, why don’t you go try? Dad, maybe you can threaten to kill yourself or something. You’re Grandma’s only son. I’m sure she’ll feel sorry for you and give you the shares so you can pass them on to Julianne,” I suggested earnestly.
When Dad’s face darkened, I couldn’t help but laugh.

He kept saying that he wanted Grandma to give Julianne the shares, but in reality, he knew that Grandma would never give them to Julianne. What he wanted was for me to get the shares from Grandma and transfer them to her.
His words were just for show, a facade to make it seem like he wasn’t depriving me of anything. He was just being fair, claiming that Julianne and I should get equal shares.
He wanted Grandma’s shares, not mine.
He probably assumed that everyone was as stupid as he was. He’d be better off being blunt about his greed.
Jeremy’s eyes brightened. If Grandma refused to give me my shares, then it would naturally fall to him, her only grandson.
He immediately switches sides. Rather than insisting that I give my shares to Julianne, he looked over at Mom, who immediately understood his intentions.
She began spouting nonsense about not forcing Grandma to do anything. She was old, Mom claimed, and having some assets probably gave her a sense of security. The company still belonged to our family, anyway.
Mom loved Julianne and allowed her to take my things, but she drew the line at Jeremy’s things. In fact, she probably wanted me to give Julianne my share so that she would be able to get them for Jeremy in the future.
Jeremy and I were twins, but we had never been treated the same.
Julianne finally lost control of her expression when she heard Mom saying that. She looked furious .
I laughed.
My family and Julianne were united against me when their interests aligned. But what happened when their interests clashed?
